Rodgers is hopeful that contract negotiations aimed at tying Luis Suárez’s long- term future to Liverpool will be resolved successfully in the coming weeks.

Suárez has been pursued by Juventus, but Liverpool had already moved to convince the Uruguay forward of his importance to them by opening talks over an improved deal that would make him one of the club’s best-paid players.

“There has been good dialogue,” Rodgers said. “I would hope that we can close that out. People always talk about the players coming but what is important is the ones you have. I look at this group and I see a really good group of players.
“I have had a good conversation with Luis over the phone. From the outset, he has seemed a really good guy. He loves the city and the passion. We have exchanged lots of texts. He sent me a text on the first morning, wishing me good luck.
“He has really bought into what we are trying to do. He was really excited about how we played at Swansea last year. He is really keen and looking forward to playing in a similar sort of model.”

He should be the clubs joint highest earner (with Stevie). With the right players around him he can be the best player in the league. Like all the other top clubs do with their marquee player (Messi at Barca, Ronaldo at Real, Rooney at Man U) we must do everything to get the best out of Suarez and build the team around him, bringing in players that compliment him.

i think your going to have to come to terms with the fact that after next season he will be gone, he`ll give us another season to repay the backing the club gave him over the evra thing but after that he`ll bale out. he`ll be 26/27 then and imo at that stage of his career he`ll be looking for a move to one of the big 2 in spain, he`s certainly good enough to play for them.
the only good thing is that we`ll get a fortune for him.

Well if he goes, we need to get good money, like we got for Torres and Alonso and then we need to buy smart... as good as Suarez is, I feel that he is still replaceable, losing Torres was worse because a premier striker is very hard to come by...

Selling Suarez sends a message that we are not trying to compete at the highest level. I'd only consider selling him if we know we can get a world class replacement.

i'm more worried about the fact that he'll miss nearly all of pre-season for the olympics.

if he goes we will get big money so we will have half a chance of replacing him.

Cash isnt everything. The top players can afford to wait as there are always more clubs with money interested. A midtable club that sells their biggest stars is not going to attract world class talent.

Jeasus lads.He is on about signing a new contract and yee are talking about whether we will get big money for him.

He wants to play for us.Maybe down the line if we are still performing below expectations then he may leave. But currently we are just starting a new era and We dont know whats ahead of us.In his mind at the minute is to play for liverpool and help us get top four and maybe more.If he doesnt get us there then maybe after that he may think of leaving.

Just keep our heads in the season ahead and stop being so negative .He plays for us so enjoy him while we have him.

Any fan that comes out and says " lets face it,he will be gone"  next summer needs to have a seriously look at themselves as they are almost expecting us to have a bad year.Get behind the team  even if you arnt so optimistic for the future. We have good owners, good positive manager and a fresh start for most players. Its all good at the minute so sit back and get behind them then criticise at the end of the season.

Spot on that. Personally I reckon he will be with us for a while. He is still young and nowhere near his peak. However like any high profile and talented player he wants to win trophies, so if we cant provide that then he will go eventually.m

fortunatly it's a small minority of negative idiots on here that say this rubbish. truth is they can't see whats happening at the club, the transition we're going through. They can't even see that we now have a young manager with a good plan that could be with us for a long long time as a positive thing. No, instead he mentions Carroll out on loan and suddenly he's clueless and a plonker. sad really

If we aren't getting into the CL then we are going to lose the top players - that is a fact - just look at both Masher and Torres leaving as prime examples.

Players will give managers and clubs a chance to get back into the top competitions but they won't wait forever. So while Suarez and Agger and Pepe etc currently are saying good stuff and wanting new contracts we all know they are worth nothing if the player decides to leave to pursue glory.

We are going through a transition but players won't wait forever.

i just dont think we are sending out the right messages as a club to keep top players, thats not a slight on rodgers thats a slight on the club, someone as talented as luis isnt going to hang around a club for years waiting for the likes of borini and possibly joe allen to develop into top players. infact it`s probably a bit much to expect luis to stay at a club not really showing any ambition when even home grown local lads like gerrard and owen considered their futures the moment it looked like the clubs ambition had dried up.
i think we get caught up in the anfield bubble sometimes, i think if we took a step back and looked at the situation here from the outside then this brave new dawn looks more like mid table acceptance. if this was happening at spurs or arsenal would you honestly be thinking to yourself `they are going to dominate in a few years time`?
if chelsea started taking the likes of borini, dempsey and allen to stamford bridge being honest i`d be f**king made up.
i`m not being negative i`m being realistic, we expect a manager who has 4 years experience (1 in the top flight) to bridge an already sizable gap with less funds than the clubs above us? saying that everton have finished above us a couple of times in the last decade with far less resources and worse players so it`s possible i suppose but it`s a longshot.
to be fair though when you have someone as talented as luis (i believe he is one of the top 5 players in the world) on your books even success and a great squad isnt always a cast iron guarentee that they`ll stay. sometimes as like united found out with ronaldo and city are finding out now with silva players just want to move to pastures new. especially in the modern game.
the carry on last season probably didnt help either, it`s probably helping us in the short term but after being dragged through a hedge backwards by the press, F.A and knights of the realm (classy as always the arl *******), not to mention getting called a diver, cheat and getting loads of stick at every ground he goes to i`m surprised he`s still here.
