Liverpool have been tracking Bernard with manager Brendan Rodgers wanting to bring in a new attacking midfielder this summer.

Liverpool had originally targeted Henrikh Mkhitaryan but the Armenian midfielder has joined Borussia Dortmund instead. The Anfield club also remain interested in Christian Eriksen of Ajax.

Bernard currently plays for Atletico Mineiro in Brazil and has made over 90 appearances for the club scoring 20 goals.

Bernard is only 20 years old and has a lot of potential. He recently shone in Brazil's Confederations Cup triumph and has five caps in total for Brazil.

Bernard has a lot of flair and is a versatile player. He has the ability to play on the left side of midfield and in the hole behind the striker. He is fast and has a good range of passing. Despite his small size Bernard rarely gets muscled off the ball. The Brazilian can add a different dimension to Liverpool.

Bernard's style of play is similar to that of former Spurs star Luka Modric who excelled in the Premier League. The Brazilian could inject some much-needed energy and creativity which was lacking in Liverpool's side last season.

Liverpool would have faced competition for Bernard from Tottenham Hotspur. However Spurs have cooled their interest after the signing of Paulinho.

Bernard would be an astute signing at around £15million and he fits Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers' policy of buying and then developing youth.

Signing someone on the back of an ok tournament ! That's always worked in the past.

Rather spend the £15mil on a CB or DM or someone like Erikson

I don't rate him as highly as others do because I thought he was flat last season. But I would certainly take him over a number of players mentioned

Good player but he is a small fella at 5'3 and just wonder whether he would stand up to the physicality of the prem. Anyway, he will be going to Porto. Believe his owned by a third party to who have links to Porto so don't think this will happen

Was happy to hear BR say that we will now look to improve the team. Was suggesting the players brought in so far were to improve the squad and that the focus will now shift to bringing in players who will improve the team

Many didn't, the knives were already out and in some cases a few were embedded in his back.

It makes them look rather stupid IMO to eagerly knife the manager before the window shuts.

I wonder if their missus' finds em this premature too.  :D

Very good news.  Let's hope he gets the targets he wants, and we could have a very strong team going into season.  I was getting very worried that our summer business would consist of signing players for the future, who may be able to perform now.  Should be interesting to hear who we'll be linked to after this.

It's just words until the actions have been done - heard the same thing last summer and the actions failed to appear. Take a lot of things said with a pinch of salt.

Also he best tell Toure and Mignolet because going by their words they appear to think they are here for first team not just squad.

that bernard impressed me in the confederations cup, he came on as a sub and his control was excellent, reminded me a bit of coutinho, i`d be made up if we got him.

I get the feeling you dont like Brendan. I dont expect you to get excited when we read comments of us looking to strengthen the squad.

However I hear Pellegrini is looking for a striker who would you like to play along side Aguero next year
