Barcelona thought enough of him to pay to have him on loan for a season and pay to have a buy clause.  They didn't follow up with that but when you look at the options they have in the positions he plays its not exactly an insult. Seville are in serious financial trouble and have cashed in.

The initial fee has been widely reported as 6.8 million with a 1 million add on so I'm not sure why you keep saying 9mil. And your comment about the comparison between leagues is based on what exactly?

Barce took him on loan for the reserves and didnt take up the option to buy - that tells me a story - they didnt rate him highly enough

The point is we have spent money on an area where we already have promising yougsters - it's wasted money when we have urgent needs elsewhere in the team

And do loads of big money buys fail ? Really ? Think it's more in the minority myself

What do you mean as "highly enough"? As highly as the likes of Pedro, Tello, Sanchez, etc. Well that's not really an issue for us right now.

Rodgers obviously doesn't feel that these promising yougsters can make a big enough contribution right now where as Alberto can. His thinking is quite obvious really and we wont have an idea if it's right or wrong for a while.

So does that mean we can't debate the merits of it ?

I thought it would be quite simple - they didnt rate him highly enough to buy him after seeing him for 12 months .

I would think that they didn't rate him as highly as the players they already have which isn't a deal breaker for us as they have some of the best players in the world and some excellent youngsters who have already represented the full Spanish side and been courted by other Champions League teams. Eto'o wasn't rated highly enough by Real Madrid and went on to have a fantastic career so I'm more than happy to see how this one turns out and don't see it as a strange move myself.

Latest rumour coming in is that Suarez will go next week in a cash + player deal involving Higuain.

The question is Higuain or Benteke - if LS is to leave who would you like the money spent on?

25 mil + Higuain for Suarez will be a fair deal for both parties IMO.
