Liverpool FC manager Roy Hodgson eyes move for Fulham’s Paul Konchesky

Jul 31 2010 by Dominic King, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL are weighing up a £2.5million swoop for Fulham left-back Paul Konchesky.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson has been anxious to bring in experienced cover in that position since Fabio Aurelio’s release and the impending sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina.

Hodgson has explored a number of options, most notably Maynor Figueroa, Wigan Athletic’s Honduran international.

However, the pursuit of Figueroa has been complicated by a number of factors – notably the fee it would take to prise him away from the DW Stadium – and the fact that Liverpool’s quota of homegrown players is low.

Former England international Konchesky, 29, who scored for West Ham against the Reds in the 2006 FA Cup final, played under Hodgson at Craven Cottage and if Liverpool are able to thrash out a deal, the fee could eventually rise to £5million.

 Id be mortified,
Lets go and get Bullard while were at it to replace Javier  :glare:

It's like groundhog day on here :D The press mention a name, everyone goes mad saying they don't want him because they're sh!t, then we don't sign them anyway :D

Quick question though. If Insua's deal has fallen through, and we DID sign Konchevsky as cover, who would be your first choice left back out of the two? I know who mine would be, and he wouldn't be Argentinian (or Danish, I said out of the TWO smart erse  :D).

I think anyone seriously suggesting that a move for this player would be beneficial in any respect for the club this season is on fucking wind up :D ..... really disappointed  if this is the kind of quality we our looking to recruit ...... Defour yes .... but for Konchesky and Poulsen ... read.......... Leicester or Luton    ???

For a season, maybe two, I'd take Damien Duff. He looks reborn down there after the horror years at Newcastle. He's not getting any younger or faster, but he had a bloody good season last year for them...

FFS i thought wed suffered enough with the Luke Young saga. I read this and thought

Koncheskey (29) 5 million (raising 2) -average at best
Figueroa (26) 6 million - one of the best LB in the prem and could, most probally would improve under us

no contest
