Global financial crisis, not club.

Fulham deal in Diarra
Fulham have signed former Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Diarra arrives at Craven Cottage on a free transfer after leaving Monaco last summer, with Fulham awaiting a visa for the Mali international before completing the deal.
The 30-year-old made his name at Lyon, leading Real Madrid to sign him for a fee of £22million in the summer of 2006.
Diarra joined Monaco last year, but left the club following their relegation from Ligue 1 and he has been linked with a move to England in the past.
Fulham boss Martin Jol has moved to offer Diarra the chance to ply his trade in England as he feels he will provide a quality addition to his options in midfield.
Diarra will be hoping to impress Jol during the remainder of the season as the Cottagers have the option to extend his deal for a further year.

That whole article looks like a pi$$ take, to be honest...

Instead we called Shelvey to bolster the numbers and warm the bench, and he doesn’t even play in Lucus’s position! Diarra would have been perfect on a contract until the end of the season. Bags of experience as a first team player for Lyon and Real Madrid.

of course its a píss take. the rumour mill on the guardian site always is. but its more taking the píss out of the endless stream of unjustified and unfounded rumours that come pouring like fetid runny poo out of the media on a daily basis. the article always just mops up whats already going around and presents it with absolute sarcasm. its amusing at times.
if we actually sign any of those players i'll come and do your washing up for a month.

agreed! when i saw the article some days back, i thought he would be a very good option and far better then Spearing. but the worse part was when the club sent Shelvey on loan again

yes he did not get us relegated oroff all the players and make them leave so he trying to come back and have another go at doing that.

Hodgson almost got us relegated, not Rafa. what are you on?![]()
anyway Rafa will do well at Chelsea. He's got a much better record at buying players I believe, compared to Hodgson, Houllier and Kenny. He'll be able to build a very strong team, the problem will be how much time he is given.
