Liverpool transfers - Jeremy Doku interest returns as Mikkel Damsgaard price set
A round-up of Liverpool transfer gossip and speculation from around the globe, including Nicolo Barella, Jeremy Doku, Saul Niguez and Mikkel Damsgaard

BELGIUM STAR JEREMY DOKU ON LIVERPOOL INTEREST & SADIO MANE TALKS
Liverpool's transfer activity is likely to gather pace in the coming weeks as the final stages of Euro 2020 approach and Jurgen Klopp prepares for the 2021/2022 season.

The Reds will be looking to improve on their third-place finish last season after injuries marred their campaign.

Liverpool have already secured the services of centre-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig but who else can we expect to arrive at Anfield?

We take a look at the latest gossip from around the globe and rate how likely they are to happen...

Who?

Nicolo Barella of Inter Milan.

Where?

CalcioMercato.

What?

According to latest reports, Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The Reds have reportedly made contact with Inter over a potential deal but the Serie A side are reluctant to sell.

The 24-year-old was part of the Inter side that won Serie A last season, scoring three goals and registering seven assists and the Nerazzurri will not want to lose their talisman.

However, Liverpool's mooted interest could provide a tempting opportunity to the Italian side to ease their financial difficulties.

Achraf Hakimi looks set to sign for PSG in a big-money move that will ease Inter’s debt troubles and Barella could be another asset sold to raise funds.

Much of the transfer interest at Anfield surrounds finding a replacement in midfield for Gini Wijnaldum. With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain used sparely by Klopp last season and James Milner's contract expiring in 2022, the Italian playmaker could be a wise investment for the Reds.

But it remains to be seen whether Liverpool do target a midfielder this summer.

Who?

Jeremy Doku.

Where?

HITC.

What?

Jurgen Klopp has apparently wanted the Belgian international at Anfield for years.

Liverpool seemingly had the chance to sign the 19-year-old in 2018 but found themselves snubbed after the teenager decided to stay at Anderlecht.

Klopp reportedly saw Doku as a successor to Sadio Mane but even talks with Steven Gerrard, Mane and the boss himself couldn't tempt the youngster to Anfield.

However, Doku has impressed while on international duty at Euro 2020, terrorising the Italians during Belgium's 2-1 quarter-final defeat on Friday.

The Belgian's form could have reignited the Reds' interest but it has also triggered plenty of competition.

Klopp may hope that Liverpool's prior interest will give them a head start in the race for the forward's signature should they decide to go back in for the Belgian wonderkid.

He certainly has the talent - and there has certainly been interest from the Reds in the past.

Who?

Saul Niguez.

Where?

MundoDeportivo.

What?

Saul Niguez is reportedly pushing for an Atletico exit after hearing rumours of interest from Liverpool.

The Spanish midfielder is searching for a new challenge after several years in the Spanish capital and has recently been linked with a move to Anfield.

However, should Liverpool decide to persue a move for the Spaniard, they may face competition from title rivals Manchester City in the race for his signature.

The Elche native played 33 games in Atletico's La Liga winning season, scoring two goals and registering one assist.

The 26-year-old has reportedly been informed of the Premier League interest and is eager to force a move.

However, Saul's transfer situation provides complications. The midfielder is contracted to the club until 2026 and is said to have a release clause of €150 million which could rule him out of contention in Liverpool's transfer plans, though it is likely that a lower fee of around €80million will instead be negotiated between clubs should he depart.

Who?

Mikkel Damsgaard.

Where?

The Express.

What?

Liverpool have shown interest in Danish wonderkid Mikkel Damsgaard, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has stepped up for his national team and is now being tipped for a £45million move.

The forward, who is currently plying his trade with Serie A side Sampdoria, has a goal and an assist in three appearances at Euro 2020 so far.

His performances have attracted the interest of some of Europe's big clubs, including Liverpool, AC Milan and Tottenham.

Klopp may be keen to strengthen his attacking options after an underwhelming season from his frontline and the playmaker is rumoured to have made his shortlist of targets.

However, with Michael Edwards and Klopp's reputations for discovering hidden gems, Damsgaard may prove to be too much of an expensive gamble for the Reds this summer.

Liverpool are plotting a major squad overhaul in the summer transfer window after failing to defend their Premier League title last season.

Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards is set to put as many as eight players up for sale as the Reds plot a major squad overhaul this summer. Injuries ravaged Jurgen Klopp’s squad last season, leading to many back-ups being handed significant playing time.

But those back-ups largely failed to impress when handed starring roles in the place of their injured team-mates.

The lack of quality in Klopp’s squad was one of the main factors in the implosion of the Reds’ Premier League title defence.

They finished a distant third to champions Manchester City, with a run of six successive home losses putting paid to their hopes of winning a second successive league title.

Last season’s disappointment exposed the poor options that Klopp has to call on beyond his main starters.

That means that a major squad overhaul is on the way at Anfield this summer, with a significant number of outgoings and incomings.

Georginio Wijnaldum has already departed on a free transfer, but that is something Liverpool would ideally have hoped to have avoided.

Joining Wijnaldum through the exit door could be several others, with Goal reporting that as many as eight stars could be heading for departures after Edwards put them up for sale.

Divock Origi has scored some important goals for the Reds since joining the club from Lille but it is said that he will be allowed to leave this summer.

The striker scored just one goal in all competitions last season, though Wolves are reportedly long-time admirers of the Belgian.

Origi’s fellow back-ups in the attacking areas are also be at serious risk of leaving Merseyside having also failed to impress Klopp last term.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumo Minamino look set to be on their way, with Goal stating that “good offers” for the pair will be considered.

Two more members of the first team squad last season will also be allowed to depart, despite both making key contributions.

The first is Nat Phillips, who will be let go if suitors Burnley, Southampton, Brighton or Newcastle match his valuation.

Liverpool will also listen to offers for Phillips’ fellow defender Neco Williams, who made a handful of appearances last term.

The final members of the group of eight being put up for sale are Harry Wilson, Marko Grujic and Loris Karius.

All three have spent the past two seasons out on loan and it is felt the time is right to let them depart permanently.

Wilson is attracting interest from Benfica, with a move to the Championship also an option, while Grujic looks set for a move to Germany or Italy.

******************************

That could easily net 100 million  but some of those players have potential and I would assume that we will replace them with similarly aged players with potential, it will be interesting to see their mindset. Only Shaq and Origi would be considered at their prime, the rest are still young.

This sort of article has pretty much been a copy and paste job for the past few years with most of the players being the same. I know we've done really well in getting high fees for players in recent years but at some point we need to be flexible on fee for the likes of Wilson and Grujic.

Yep he was on loan at Union Berlin last year (1mil loan fee) and Besiktas for the 2 before that (£2.25mil loan fee for the two years). Think he's now going into the final year of his contract.

That Belgian lad Doku looks an exciting talent, apparently we were close to signing him when he was a kid, his current club Renne reportedly want 100m euro’s for him which if true certainly takes us out of the equation (unless they’ll except players in part ex like Naby, Shaq or Divock - or something along those lines). Pity that because he does look the real deal.

Looks like another Adama Traore to me to be honest, a lot of flair but no end product.

Zero end product , he maybe quick and have fancy feet but it’s meaningless if you do nothing with it at the end - his football brain and decision making was shocking the other night

Doku does look like one of those players who looks good if you consistently feed them the ball ahead of others but won't actually win you many points. Bit like Adama Traore and Saint-Maximin. The numbers he put up for Rennes were pretty poor (2 goals and 3 assists in 26 starts and 4 sub appearances). But on the flip side he only turned 19 in May so he might be one that a manager brings in with a view to developing. But judging by his comments on why stayed in Belgium and eventually went to France I don't think he'd move anywhere to be a project.

We've been linked with a record number of players this window as the media create stories as click bait. 90% of the lads I've never heard of and will never hear of again. In the meantime Liverpool have bought a single player and struggle as always to get rid of the deadwood. Transfer windows used to be exciting, now they're as boring as h#ll.

Still think this is more or less true. Some clubs are returning to pre-season this week so holidays are coming to an end for players and journalists. Euros and Copa America also end this week. So I'd expect transfer activity to slowly pick up in the second half of July. Quite a few players we could do with moving on as per the article Kazza posted.

Its crazy to think that teh Copa/Euros season would finish until mid July then're expected to be fully recovered and revitalised by the first game of the season. Kinda emphasizes the need for a bigger squad of quality players who can be used seamlessly to allow players to take breaks.

Problem is players are like children in that they just want to play and don’t think about how they will feel in January when the injuries start to take their toll. Tell a player that you are going to rest him so he is not tired at the meat end of the season and they will still throw a strop.

There is no let up really in the playing calendar so the key is having a bigger better squad to cope with it.

Disappointed that so far we haven't managed to offload some of the duds. We have already spent the annual 30mil on Konate so its vital we shift a few in order to strengthen further.

Even if we dont replace Gini we really need a striker. Bobby can drop back into mid to accommodate someone because we need a player with a better return in that position.
