in principle, I agree. You look at Chelsea bringing in Rudiger and spurs bringing in Sanchez with both looking very good central defenders it does make you wonder. Not saying Van Dijk is a bad defender but I've never been convinced he is as good as a lot of people make him out to be. Seems another one that can go on a run and look really good but has that moment where he slips up in his locker. Watched a fair few games he was involved in since we were first linked about a year ago and not been totally won over to be honest. He is a front foot defender, which is what our style requires. Lovren isn't that. But worryingly, I picked up on a fair few Lovren like moments from him.

At a club like Southampton he can probably get away with that however at a club like us it is going to get magnified. However, if Klopp wants him, then we have to back him.

Tbh if City did come calling it would be tough to say no.
They look like they could dominate everything over the next few years so an opportunity like that would be tough to turn down.  There will be much tougher competition for a starting spot there so that might swing in our favour if we are even interested.
I just hope he goes somewhere in January just to put an end to it. Some of the stuff out there from so called Journalists is just click bait that changes from he will today to he won't tomorrow and then its on again. Sooner its over the better.

I'm the same, if he comes here then fine, if he goes to City I'm fine with that also, he's never worth £70m and we could probably pick up a solid replacement for half that money (like that lad McGuire from Leicester).

From what I've heard, both City and LFC made bids last week and VVD is deciding where he wants to go.

Guess both are around £70m, but would be shocked if that was all upfront.

£75m for VVD...FSG are really backing Klopp with this one, which is really good to see. Apparently City were not prepared to go that high. Don't know what it is,  but just got a feeling deep inside that Southampton are really pulling our pants down with this deal. I really hope for us and the lad that he is a big hit here.

It's the way the market is at the moment...WBA want £40m for Johnny fuking Evans, while City paid £50m for Kyle Walker.

Even Djimi Sakho Traore went for £26m...

True, Everton spent over £70m on Pickford and Signurdsson

If Can wont sign then sell him in January and get Goretzka early. Think they are similar in style so a straight swap won't see the wheels fall off.
