Liverpool have reportedly been given a much-needed boost after it was revealed that their January transfer target Martin Montoya will leave Barcelona next month.

Montoya is understood to have grown frustrated at his lack of first team opportunities at Camp Nou, and his agent Juan de Dios Carrasco told Tuttomercatoweb.com that he believes an official agreement will soon be reached regarding his departure.

"Tomorrow there will be a summit with Barcelona to communicate a decision we have already made," he said.

"We will leave the club in January, there are interested clubs from England, Italy and Germany.

"Montoya wants to leave Barcelona and thinks the club is a gentleman and will respect the agreement that he can leave."

The Reds won't be the only ones to have been alerted by Carrasco's statement, though, as a number of teams including Juventus are thought to be interested in the right-back.

Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to test Swansea City's resolve to keep Wilfried Bony by bidding for the striker in the January transfer window, Goal understands.

Bony only signed a new four-year contract with Swansea last month but that will not stop the Ivorian attracting attention in the New Year as Liverpool and Spurs try to boost their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Both clubs made approaches to Swansea for Bony over the summer but pulled out of deals after turning up their noses at Swansea's £20 million asking price.

Swansea manager Garry Monk has warned it would take an "astronomical" fee for the club to sell their star striker in January, when Bony will leave to play for Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Arsenal and Manchester City have also been linked with Bony, but Liverpool and Tottenham would both be able to offer the 26-year-old a regular starting spot as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Bony is a proven goalscorer having netted 33 times since signing for Swansea in a £12m deal from Vitesse in July 2013, while he is the leading scorer in the Premier League in 2014 with 19 goals this calendar year.

Brendan Rodgers is a long-term admirer of Bony and again bemoaned the lack of goals in his side after Liverpool's Champions League exit against Basel on Tuesday.

The Reds spent around £120m on new players over the summer and it is unclear whether owners Fenway Sports Group would sign off another big-money signing, especially with Belgian forward Divock Origi joining the club from Lille when his loan spell expires at the end of the season.

Tottenham have also struggled in front of goal. They are the second lowest scorers in the top 10 of the Premier League, with strikers Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado scoring just three times between them this season.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is desperate for a quality striker to lead the line and Bony would fit the bill and, crucially, is proven in England. Several of Tottenham's signings from the last two summer transfer windows have arrived from foreign clubs and failed to settle at White Hart Lane.

But there will be a premium on Bony to prize him away from Swansea in January, with Monk confident last week that the Welsh club would keep their star man.

"It would take an astronomical fee for him [Bony] to go anywhere," Monk said.

"We are not a selling club, we don't need to sell. We are very much committed with our players and they are committed to us and that's how we move on."

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen with talks already underway over a deal.

Vertonghen is set to quit Spurs in the coming months after turning down the offer of a new contract at White Hart Lane, and Liverpool now look like getting him.

According to reports, the Reds have held talks with the Belgian's agent over a switch and are now confident of pulling the transfer off.

It's claimed that a deal is close with Tottenham willing to sell him on the cheap, but the negotiations could drag on for weeks.

wisdom and coates are also out on loan as well which brings us to 7 cb's on the books. we are a bit stacked in that dept but not on quality.
maybe he is a replacement for sakho ? I say that because he couldn't be happy at how his career has panned out so far with us. he also hasn't been seen since he stormed out of the dressing room a while ago so I reckon that relationship has broken down and his agent is looking to get him out in January.

Unless someone goes for cash I doubt we will be spending this window.

Liverpool have made a £3.2million offer to sign Uruguayan striker Jaime Baez, who has been dubbed the new Luis Suarez.

Baez is rated as one of the hottest prospects in South America at the moment, and Valencia had been strongly linked with a deal to sign him.

But reports say that Liverpool have moved ahead in the race with Brendan Rodgers slapping in an offer worth £3.2million to his club Atletico Juventud.

The 19-year-old has only scored nine goals in 49 first-team games but is known to create a lot of goals with his speed and energy.

Liverpool have opened talks with Genoa over a deal to sign their Italy international goalkeeper Mattia Perin, according to the player's agent.

The Reds are on the lookout for another glovesman in the new year.

And 22-year-old Perin looks like being the man Liverpool want with agent Moreno Roggi revealing that talks have already taken place.

"There has been contact with Liverpool," he said.

"For Perin I can only imagine a future abroad. I would like him to remain in Italy, but only clubs from abroad can afford him.

"England? It's a possibility."

Perin would cost £12million to sign.

Liverpool will reportedly make Norwich's John Ruddy a key transfer target in the January window.

The only other senior keeper in Liverpool's squad is Brad Jones, and the Anfield club are keen to bring Ruddy in to provide more competition for the number one jersey.

Ruddy was left out of Roy Hodgson's squad for the Brazil World Cup after being relegated with Norwich last season, and according to the Daily Mail the 28-year-old is ready to swap Carrow Road for the Premier League in order to boost his international credentials.

Anfield could well be his next destination, but the Reds will have to move quickly if they want to secure Ruddy's services as Crystal Palace are also thought to be interested.

Tottenham are bracing themselves for January interest in defender Jan Vertonghen with Liverpool, Manchester United and even Arsenal closely watching developments, reports Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

The versatile 27-year-old Belgian is reportedly unsettled under new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and would be open to a move away from White Hart Lane.

That's alerted a host of clubs - with north London rivals Arsenal one of them.

Spurs would demand around £17m for Vertonghen, though Liverpool would prefer a loan deal.

Vertonghen signed for the White Hart Lane club from Ajax in a £12million deal in the 2012 summer window.

Manchester City look set to rival Liverpool for the signing of in-form Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony this January, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Premier League champions are looking short of options upfront after losing Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko to injury, meaning Spanish youngster Jose Pozo started upfront for Manuel Pellegrini's side against Leicester City this weekend.

Bony has been linked with other top clubs in the past after settling well into Premier League life, having previously enjoyed a prolific scoring record in the Eredivisie with Vitesse.

The 26-year-old has continued to impress this season, scoring nine goals and providing two assists in 17 appearances for the Swans to earn rumoured interest from Liverpool.

Valued at around £20m, Bony could prove a bargain for City as they look to solve their issues upfront, with the team relying heavily on the goals of Aguero this season, as the Argentine's fine form has seen him become top scorer in the Premier League.

Liverpool plot audacious Petr Cech move as Reds eye loan deal for Chelsea's backup goalkeeper

The Reds are on the hunt for a new keeper following the dismal form of Simon Mignolet, and the Blues could be willing to let the Czech stopper go

Liverpool are making an audacious bid to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech on loan.

Brendan Rodgers will press through with his plans to bring in a genuine rival for axed number one Simon Mignolet, and Chelsea have not dismissed completely the idea of a loan for Cech.

They now don't see Liverpool as a rival in this season's title race, and with the Reds out of the Champions League, a move for Cech could help Jose Mourinho's side.

He would be prevented from playing at Stamford Bridge, but would be available for matches against Manchester City, United and Arsenal if a deal could be agreed.

Liverpool have dismissed claims they have already lined up a £3m move for Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa.

The Anfield club have also been linked with a January move for Barcelona right back Martin Montoya after the Spanish international's agent said the defender has asked to leave the Nou Camp in the transfer window.

Speaking yesterday, the player's representative Juande Dios Carrasco said: "He is going to go in January and all that has to be done is to reach an agreement with Barcelona.

"There are a number of clubs in England that are ready to negotiate for him and his buy-out clause is 20 million euros."

The massive stumbling block though, is the fee, with Barca demanding the full buy out clause - which is an eye-watering near £18m for an inexperienced full back.

The Reds will only have funds to spend in January IF they sell first...and even if they offload Fabio Borini to Sunderland when the window opens, that will leave limited funds for Rodgers to spend on much-needed reinforcements.

His priority is unquestionably a striker, and he will spend as much as it takes to bring in a centre forward capable of running in behind defences, with targets Alexandre Lacazette and Wilfried Bony likely to swallow the entire budget.

If there is any left, Rodgers WOULD like a defender, but with John Flanagan finally on the comeback trail, his priority in January would be a centre half, and again, he could look to the loan market.
