Aquilani rumour hotting up

The Roma and Italy midfielder Alberto Aquilani is Liverpool's primary target as the departure of Xabi Alonso became ever more inevitable yesterday. The Spanish midfielder raised the stakes in his battle to leave the club by formally requesting a transfer to Real Madrid, who have pursued him all summer.

Aquilani, 25, has been a long-term target for manager Rafael Benitez, who has been given encouragement that the player, one of Roma's three home-grown stars along with Francisco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, may become available this summer. He would not be cheap but should cost less than the £30m that Liverpool want for Alonso.

Benitez's hard-line stance on Alonso – that the player is contracted to the club until 2012 and will not be allowed to leave – should soften if a deal can be done with Roma for Aquilani.

I've heard it's a loan deal , he could be good for cover , very talented youngster

The fact that we are supposedly interested in Cattermole and Turner worries me more than losing Alonso.  Neither are good enough.

Spot on there Toffeehater

I have to admit when I heard Cattermole linked to us it was one of them what a bloody sounding English crapy name but I have warmed to the idea, some of these english players need there chance in a top side just like Carrick got his chance at the Mancs. You never know this could be a blessing in disguise.

Get Silva and Cattermole.......

and Ribery and Villa

Some sites claiming that rafa will use the entire xabi money plus whatever we have left on our kitty 10 million or so and bid for david villa with gerrard going back into the middle. I'd be more than happy with that

i dont know about that. villa is class. there's no disputing that. but torres doesn't play that well along side him. I'd rather Silva who'd cost less, then get a backup striker who doesn't mind warming the bench...

I have watched them play with Spain together quite a few times now and they do play well with each other and when one doesn't get a goal the other seems to which is good, Would still prefer Silva though just because he is younger and I think we need a winger more and he can play as a forward as well.
Would be the worst move in the world breaking up Gerrard & Torres as well and Villa would cost a lot more than Silva, Saying that I would love Villa at the club as I think he is just behind Torres as the best forward in the world at the moment.

Villa is like RVN he's a fox in the box , a real goal poacher and relies mostly on others to create for him , saying that however he has carried valencia this couple of season . Torres can create goals for himself , is a good dribbler , faster than villa , stronger in the air . If i had to pick one , it would have to be nando as the best forward in the world. Wouldn't mind having villa here however with nando , spain's number 1 strike force paring playing for us week in and week out

yep... im sure he has a better record than Torres with Spain and is seen by many as Spains main man upfront rather than Torres...
They play very well together imo and they set each other up and connect well imo... we'd be one hell of a side if we had him but i dont think we have enough funds to afford him ....

Roma Ace Alberto Aquilani Agrees Liverpool Terms

The 25-year-old has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Reds, but talks between the clubs have yet to take off.
31 Jul 2009 09:02:07

According to Rome-based daily Il Messaggero, Italian international midfielder Alberto Aquilani is ready to turn his back on his hometown club Roma and commit his long-term future to Premier League giants Liverpool.

‘Il Principino’ has allegedly agreed a five-year contract with the Anfield outfit worth €4 million-per-season.

However, Liverpool have yet to enter formal discussions with the Lupi as Aquilani’s move to England is directly tied to Xabi Alonso’s future, with the Spaniard reportedly on the verge of finalising a move to Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid.

Aquilani only penned a new contract with the Giallorossi last May, tying him to the Olimpico until June 2013, but president Rosella Sensi is prepared to sacrifice the youth product to ease the club’s financial problems and is hoping to get at least €20m out of the deal.

Meanwhile, Roma have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Nigerian striker Victor Obinna on loan from Inter, setting their sights on Milan winger Ignazio Abate instead.

 How can we have agreed terms if we havnt spoken to Roma yet
