Schwarzer linked with Liverpool move
15:20 January, 7, 2005
Middlesbrough Football Club goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has been linked with a move to Anfield.

The Australian stopper is out of contract at the end of the season, and with no new deal on the horizon, the Riverside Stadium club may want to cash in on him now rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

Liverpool are eager to sign a ‘keeper during the transfer window following the injury to Chris Kirkland, and a cut-price offer of around £2million may be winging its way to the North East.

"I do not know if it will be a loan or a permanent deal, but we must have an experienced goalkeeper as cover with us still in four competitions and the Champions League due to start soon," said Benitez.

Gregory Vignal linked with Marseille

He is attracting the interest of Marseille, claim dubious sources this afternoon. It is claimed that the French outfit are keen on signing the left-back who is currently on loan north of the border at Glasgow Rangers. Vignal failed to make an impact at Anfield under Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez was advised to off-load him when he took over in the summer.

The deal which is likely to see Fernando Morients arrive at Anfield in the coming days will also bring Real goalkeeper Cesar to Merseyside.

Following protracted talks between club officials and agents, a fee of around £7 million is thought to have been agreed upon, which will include both Morientes and Cesar.

It is thought Reds manager Rafa Benitez was keen to sign the 33 year old Real veteran as cover, following the recent injury worries of Chris Kirkland

Pennant and Johnson

Liverpool are this morning linked with shock moves for Crystal Palace forward Andy Johnson and Arsenal midfielder Jermaine Pennant. It has been well documented that Rafael Benitez is an admirer of both players but with three new players already likely to arrive in January, it will come as a surprise if Benitez can pull of more coups.

Johnson joined Palace from Birmingham as a £750,000 makeweight in Clinton Morrion's £4.25m move to St Andrews. Since then he won promotion with the Londoners and has made a big impact during his first season in the Premiership. Proving himself to be a clinical finisher and a nuisance to Premiership defenders.

It is claimed that Rafael Benitez has already offered out-of-favour defender Stephane Henchoz and midfielder Salif Diao plus cash in a bid to strike a deal.

Liverpool face competition from Everton for the signature of Pennant however. The youngster has failed to claim a regular starting place in the Arsenal midfield with Arsene Wenger preferring more established players like Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg ahead of the England U-21 international.

Pennant joined Arsenal for £1.5million from Notts County in 1999 and spent last season on loan at Leeds United. After that, clubs lined up to sign him when Leeds dropped into the Championship but Pennant decided he would take one last shot at establishing himself at Arsenal. Now that seems to have failed he seems ready for a move.

Along with Liverpool and Everton, Manchester City, Southampton and Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam are also interested on signing the player who will be out of contract this summer.

these rumours are getting ridiculous now. it reminds me of back in 1999-2000 when we were linked with about 2,596 defenders. ???

i've also read today that we're interested in graveson (yes graveson) and are also looking to bring in olivier dacourt on loan, with a view to a permanent move.

Scottish giants desperate to land Liverpool defender
14:40 January, 11, 2005
Glasgow Rangers Football Club have made an improved offer for Stephane Henchoz.

FansFC

The Swiss defender has been told he can leave Liverpool during the transfer window, and he held initial talks with the Ibrox club last week.

However, he rejected the chance of a move to Scotland as Rangers were only prepared to offer a deal to the end of the season, whereas a longer contract was sought.

Yet it now appears the Scots have had a change of heart and are willing to renegotiate with Henchoz, according to the players’ agent.

"Rangers have changed the terms and it is now an offer that can be discussed," Jorg Vonmatt told Sky Sports. "Stephane is a lot happier with the new deal and the length of the contract is not a problem now.

“It's now a straightforward decision and he must consider where he next wants to play. He has a number of other offers to consider.”

Real Madrid goalkeeper Caesar and midfielder Albert Celades will leave the club in the summer.

The pair have failed to agree new contracts, and can now start talking to prospective suitors.

The players have been linked with moves to Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The cheek of Palace a million for IGOR :D

Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has revealed that Liverpool rejected a loan deal worth a possible £1million during the transfer window for midfielder Igor Biscan.

Fourth from bottom Palace wanted to recruit the Croatian international in the hope that he could help them retain their Premier League status by avoiding relegation.

The Palace chairman was talking about deals that Palace were unable to complete and that's when Biscan's name cropped up.

Jordan said: "We haven't acquired any players in the window but we put in a £2.75m bid to Charlton for Jason Euell, provisionally accepted but the manager didn't want to sell.

"We put a £3m bid on the table to Crewe for Dean Ashton but they didn't want to talk to us. We offered Liverpool a £500,000 loan fee for Igor Biscan and £500,000 if we stay up. We offered £1m for Bobby Zamora, who apparently didn't want to join because he was getting death threats on his mobile phone."
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Im confused. On this board a couple of months ago when Igor got MOM in Deportivo people were ravin about him and saying he should be playing more. Now most people wish he had been flogged.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is hoping to sign Jermain Defoe, Michael Ballack and Shaun Wright-Phillips in the summer from money raised from the sale of Steven Gerrard, claim newspaper reports today.

It is claimed that Rafa accepts he will not be able to make a like-for-like purchase to replace Gerrard so is determined to recruit some proven talent to show supporters that the Reds haven't become a selling club.

The trio of highly-talented players were all at some point wanted by former boss Gerard Houllier.
