fecking bite their hands of for that type of money for him , i'd take it , at best a squad player , get a decent right back with that cash

Disagree mate..... that's about 8 million quid. For a utility defender who's good enuff to play well, anywhere across the back four and who in all likelihood will probably be our 1st choice right back (if we don't bring anyone else) as I'm really not sold on this Degen fella yet. Seems to be a fair bargain at best.... certainly cause to think twice but not enuff for me to snap anyone's hand off.... He may not be 1st class but for that kind of money, I'd say it's better to keep him as the 1st name on the subs list at the very least.

good shout mate , but 8 million is really a tidy profit for a player whom i think we bought for over 2 million quid? Besides if he does go , we can play carragher at right back who may not be the best going forward but defensively is deffo better than arbeloa and we have finnan for backup and also degen . Arbeloa is a good player to have around as a back up as he can play in a variety of postions that you suggested but he's still best at left back i reckon , he was cr.ap player at centre back and average at best i reckon at right back

Both yourself and Sabre make compelling points mate... didn't think about it like that at 1st but I agree to a certain extent on the points you've both raised.

A tidy profit indeed and if we really need to raise the funds, then a 6 million quid profit from Arbeloa does make sense.

Which leaves the following players competing for right back.
Degen, Finnan and possibly Carra.

Degen is one that I'm not prepared to accept as 1st choice just yet... Waaaay to early. Finnan, if he recovers his form is a good shout. Carra is fine there as well but he'll get skinned down the right against quality and pace and really does not offer too much going forward. The flanks are still areas we need to sort out and Carra is not the solution methinks... only a fill in when injuries take their toll. On current form, Arbeloa is IMO the best option we have out on the right of defense... So unless Degen is the unexpected messiah OR we are planning to buy someone else in that position, it doesn't make sense to me to sell him right now....

If money is the issue, selling Arby will not guarantee that we can adequately replace him.....

Broken record time...   :p
Bellamy + Pennant vs Dani Alves?

20/20 hindsight is such a wonderful thing don't you think?

If any club came in with £8m for Arbeloa I'd take it without question. He's decent and versatile, but £8m would be far too good to refuse, for me anyway. That kind of money could go a fair way to sorting that position out once and for all.

We'd be lucky!

How about that lad Anyukov?

There are quality players out there I'm sure, they just need scouted out.
