French fullbacks seem to do pretty well, hopefully that Abidal rumor will revive

Rafa said that we're not interested in him.

Wouldn't worry me Nanny. He may form part of a deal for Crouch. The fella's a 23 yr old Croation international, two years prem experience under his belt, can play Left Mid or Central Mid and is more comfortable on the ball than many of our existing players, decent pace and an eye for a good pass, only downside imo he's a bit light on goals scored.

Arsenal have apparently displayed interest in him and croatian coach Slavan Bilic has described him as "an identikit Arsene Wenger player"

TBPH  Woof as Bigmick would say i havnt watched the lad that often so maybe it was wrong of me to say hes c.rap. But hes not been that outstandin for me to actualy sit up an take notice of him. The reason im worried is because it looks like hes all we can afford and players of similar standards.

While the other lot are spending big on recognised names i just get the feelin that if we are gonna be looking at players of his caliber then come Christmas again were all gonna be screaming why were not fighting for the prem again.

Maybe the lad will be outstanding with a better team than Portsmouth, yeh never know . But i just want us to buy quality.

Fingers crossed all the players linked so far, well perhaps with the exception of Barry, are paper talk because in all honesty I do not think any of these lads are going to make a big difference if at all.

If we are looking at players of this calibre and thats to say pretty ordinary ones then it will be the same old story with a new cast is all.

We've been discussing him mate, while I like him (not as much as Silva though), our mates here seem very unimpressed.

I will go for Silva 1million times rather than Riera.I hope he just leaves for a club with an excellent manager Who pushes him very hard and I am sure will became one of the best players on earth.

Well Riera was absolutely sh!te at an City not long ago, so I must confess I wouldn't be dancing in the aisles about us signing him either. I suppose there is the chance that he will leave that form well behind, but when a player flops like he did it's very difficult to not come to the conclusion that he simply isn't cut out for English Football. Now I know Sabes will say "football is football" and all that, but whether it's the pace of the thing, the tempo, the physicality of it all or whether it's a bit too cold or whatever else, some players just don't take to it.

It's a bit like hearing that Arsenal were about to buy Morientes. Is there anybody on planet Earth who would think that he'd be likely to succeed over here second time around?

Well stranger things have happened in England, like Mascherano not being good enough for West Ham's manager.

At least bigmick, the good news about Riera, and I think that you'll like it, it's that he's not a player who'll give "options" and "possibilities", he's a specific left winged player.  :)

What is interesting, old, very weird  and well known at the same time is..Why does Benitez like those type of "middle class" players?
(I think it deserves a topic thread...)

You said it, the manager has to wheel and deal and f.ck around with bosmans that he`ll make a few mill on in the next window. If there was £50m just waiting to be spent i think the names would be different and we wouldnt have to rely on swapping players. :(
