Although I haven't seen him play for Espanyol, the reports unnerve me because, despite being a pretty good player for Man City - a powerful ball carrying left-winger with a solid shot, he would be average by our standards. He's not a Spanish Barry as they are very different types of players - one a powerful winger with a decent goal threat, the other a solid central midfielder who can also play as a left midfielder, or left back.

We shall see however.

Barcelona have put Samuel Eto'o up for sale for £30m to finance the purchase of a big name for next season, but the striker does not want to leave. (Spanish sports paper Marca, BST 1100)

Probably way more than we can afford but I would love to see him and Torres play together. Eto'o is fast, hardworking and a pretty good finisher too.

LFC2007: I don't know Barry to compare him in his game -- next to nothing, to be perfectly honest mate, I was comparing him more on the kind of impact he'd be. About Riera you cannot say he's a top top player, just like Barry, but you could use him, just like Barry.

As for considering him a winger, well I think here we're talking about terminology mate. I call wingers to a very specific kind of player. But as I say that might be misleading for you lot since he does everything to call him a winger, good dribbling, assists and range shot included. Very useful to make the pitch wide, but he's also comfortable far from the goal, in posession football.

Good news is that I won't have to look much to track this player as one of his fans have a site called "Riera compilations" (1) in which the latest rumours surrounding the player are posted. BTW, the Liverpool interest is already there.

As for average for our standards, I'd say a bit better than average for our standards, but I admit he doesn't reach the "exciting" label mate. Anyway, I think he'd be a interesting player, for a specific position, a good player to play in a lot of league matches, not a player to have "options".

(1) Plenty of youtube videos here, but always remember youtube doesn't substitute watching a 90 min game.
