Well after the lad who told me on the phone the thing about Alonso already agreeing with Real Madrid that was on the tele out there i emailed my friend last night who is connected to Real to find out if any truth. Or was this lad just winding me up cause he knows how much i like Xabi well this is there reply this morning.

Hi Sandra,

it was a pleasure have you and Shenel in Madrid. Hope to see you soon in England or in Spain!
I don't hear anything about Xabi Alonso and De La Red. It's a surprise for me. De la Red is a very good player. He is the engine of the Getafe team and Real Madrid wants to recover him for the new season. It sounds very strange. I'll try to compile more information and I'll let you know.

Cheers
Paloma

I believe this now cause if he had signed this person would know

IM relaxed now

Chelsea are set to win the race to sign Portuguese star Jose Bosingwa after agreeing a deal with Porto.

The Blues have struck a deal worth 20.5million euros (£16.2million) with Porto and the player has flown to London for talks and a medical.

Porto announced a deal was done in a statement to the Portuguese Stock Exchange: "We inform the market that we have an understanding with Chelsea for the rights to our player Jose Bosingwa for the price of 20.5million euros.

"More information on the relative agreement of the transfer will be legalised once the player concludes the medical examinations that he is now having with the permission of Porto football club."

The player's agent Jorge Mendes has accompanied his client as Chelsea look to seal the deal in the next 48 hours.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa have all made moves for the 25-year-old in recent months but it appears Chelsea have held them off to land the highly-rated full-back.

Bosingwa, who has been at Porto for five years since joining from Boavista, will have his sights set on becoming first-choice at Stamford Bridge.

Fellow countryman Paulo Ferriera and Brazilian Juliano Belletti are the other options to play at right-back for coach Avram Grant, while midfielder Michael Essien has also been used there on occasions.

Well it's the end of the season and this is where all the stupid talk stops and we get on with the real business no more squad players and stop gaps, we need
real quality and players that specialise in their chosen position.

In all fairness we could do with a new transfer rumour thread - 119 pages before the 2008 summer window actually opens is a bit of a headf*ck.

Ok so Chelsea have agreed to sign Boswinga from Porto, a RB that we were heavily linked with not so long ago.  I think it has been prettry evident all season that we are in need of new full backs, (Finnan looks past it, Arbeloa is a decent stop gap, Aurelio shows signs of promise but hasn't yet gone about establishing himself as first choice LB) so who are the other RB's that Rafa could possibly be looking at?  In my opinion i think we will see Insua establish himself as first choice LB next season (possibly the 2nd half of the season) because i think the lad is class and hasnt looked out of place in the first team recently.

I know we are always linked with Daniel Alves but surely his price tag means that it is not a feasible option anymore?  I dont think Rafa would be prepare to spend over £20 million on a full back??

I've also heard some talk about this Degen guy from Dortmund, but what ive heard about him hardly fills me with confidence and the fact that he is a Bosman and none of the other big clubs are after him is surely a sign....

Sergio Ramos would be a dream signing for me, but thats exactly what it is, a dream.  There is no way Real would let him go for the amount of money that we have available, and even still it is not clear that he would even favour a move to England, let alone Liverpool?

So with Boswinga at Chelsea and the above players ruled out for whatever reasons, who could Rafa be interested in, if indeed he is after a RB at all?  From all the rumours ive heard on here, id have to go with Rafinha, I think he is in our transfer budget and definately think he would improve the 1st 11.  Just wondering if this Degen guy was a definate or has anyone else heard anything different regarding the full back positions?

Well, other right back possibilities could be:

Rafinha
Richards
Alves
Miguel

None of which I think we'll get, but they would each be quality additions

Problem is we are buying players from the second tier in terms of quality.

I know we have budget issues compared with Chelsea but the likelyhood is they have taken the best full back already and given they already have better full backs than us its a bit of a sickener.

We cannot compete with them and its difficult to take.

I'd take all 4 of those in an instant.  But realistically Alves and Richards are out of the question.  I could see the other two being tempted here though

Former Chelsea and Liverpool target Daniel Alves of Sevilla will be having talks with two big clubs this week, according to the player's agent. (BBC Sport, 1310 BST)

Are we considered big? is it us? :) I hope it is!
Anyways, seriously, there really shouldn't be any doubt of Liverpool FC challenging all the other 'big' teams for well-known players. I really am flabbergasted and extremely sad when I read of us being like paupers, begging and scrimping. I'm not asking for us to buy wantonly like Chelski.

All I want is the capability, of which we are very much capable of, to afford ANY player that fits the bill and not let financial constraints restrict us to mediocrity. Must I remind everyone that we have FIVE Champions league trophies, the most out of any club in UK and only behind Real Madrid and AC Milan in Europe. We are also still leading in EPL/Div 1 championships with 18 titles. And look what happened when we decided to buy a big name, he went on to score 24 goals, smashing van horseface's record for best newcomer.

Madrid Ready For Alonso Swoop
Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso could be the first Real Madrid signing this summer according to reports in Spain.

Marca has claimed that Rafa Benitez has given the move the go-ahead and Alonso could be a Merengues player by the time he leaves for the European Championships.

It seems as if Real are acting quickly as they do not want to lose out to other clubs who are also interested in the Liverpool midfielder.

The Reds are asking for €28 million but it seems that Real will be able to complete the operation with €24 million.

Reports have also suggested that Los Blancos may throw in Ruben de la Red in order to try and pay a lower transfer fee for their target.

Juventus have also been after the midfielder but it seems likely that Real will land their man as Alonso is not keen on a move to Italy and instead he wants to return to his native Spain.

Meanwhile, Bernd Schuster’s side will be hoping they can continue their La Liga triumph with a win against Real Zaragoza on Sunday.

Lets trade xabi with sergio ramos and pay a little more for ramos . Would solve that right back problem :nod

Liverpool & Bolton To Discuss Guthrie

Bolton Wanderers are set to hold talks with Liverpool over the permanent signing of midfield starlet Danny Guthrie.

»  Twenty-one-year-old Guthrie has spent the season on loan with Wanderers this season and has an impressive campaign, becoming an important factor in their survival in the Barclays Premier League.

Bolton boss Gary Megson is therefore keen to sign the player permanently and tie down the young Englishman to a long-term contract. Megson is set to hold talks with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez in the coming days over a cut-price £1.5 million transfer.

With Liverpool already strong in central-midfield with the likes of Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso, along with Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry still being heavily linked with the club, a future on Merseyside looks unlikely for the youngster.

Guthrie made 25 Premier League appearances and also featured 7 times in the UEFA Cup this season and has himself stated that he is happy to stay at the Reebok Stadium having thoroughly enjoyed his loan spell at the club.

We never seem to get what we should for our players, I think we should refuse to sell to Bolton or R.Madrid as we always seem to get ripped off by them.

Hamann never even played a game for them and we still got ripped off!
