The Premiership - General Discussion

1) Hull City have completed the signing of Manchester United striker Manucho on loan until the end of the season.
Hull have not yet secured a work permit for the 25-year-old but hope they will be able to achieve that before Saturday's match against Arsenal, while the club are also expected to complete the signing of former Liverpool defender Steve Finnan in the coming week.
Brown said the club were still hoping to do a deal with Finnan, but insisted the club would have to be completely satisfied about the full-back's fitness.
"It is a long way from being complete," said Brown. "He has been injured and I think he has only played four games for Espanyol, which is a concern of ours, hence the reason he has undergone a medical to the extent he has.
"We are pulling out all the stops. We are making sure we are doing this one properly."
One deal already completed is that for winger Kevin Kilbane, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract on Thursday.

2) Wigan manager Steve Bruce has confirmed a deal to sell midfielder Wilson Palacios to Tottenham has been "virtually agreed".
The deal is believed to be worth around £14million for a player Wigan bought 14 times less, and Bruce said: "The two clubs have virtually agreed a fee. It is how that fee should be paid.

3) Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho has claimed he would like Jermaine Jenas at the San Siro.
Sky Sports News report that the Inter boss has made his intentions clear, while the Palacios deal has cast doubt on the future of the Spurs midfielder, who has been out of favour under Harry Redknapp.

4) Real Madrid are believed to be ready to let Argentina international striker Javier Saviola leave the Bernabeu in the January transfer window.
Forgotten man Javier Saviola celebrates scoring a rare goal.
Saviola has struggled to make an impact with Real following his arrival from bitter rivals Barcelona in the summer of 2007, however Premier League trio Everton, Portsmouth and Newcastle United are all reported to have made tentative enquiries over securing his services.

5) Liverpool could try to strike a permanent deal with Toulouse for left back Herita Ilunga, who has impressed on his loan spell at West Ham.

6) Manchester City are known to be busy trying to secure a deal for Brazilian International Kaka from AC Milan, but they are reportedly also planning to bring Italian International Marco Materazzi back to the Premier League from Inter Milan.
35-year-old Materazzi, who has played for Everton in the 1998/1999 Premiership season is said to have received a big offer from City to make the switch from the San Siro to the Eastlands Stadium.
Materazzi is said to be keen on returning back to the Premier League after losing his place in the Inter first XI to Walter Samuel and Ivan Ramiro Cordoba, with Inter understood to have no objections to Materazzi leaving the Serie A side for the Blues.

7) Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly tracking Inter Milan’s Hernan Crespo, after failing to entice his team mate Adriano to the Premier League club.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp flew to see Inter’s Coppa Italia win over Genoa earlier in the week, giving rise to reports that the club were preparing a bid for Adriano.
However, with Inter reluctant to let go of the Brazilian international, Redknapp is now understood to have turned his attention to former Chelsea striker Crespo.
Argentine International Crespo's contract at the San Siro runs out in the summer, with Nerazzurri coach Jose Mourinho not favouring the striker and could decide to cash in on Crespo rather than let him leave the Italians for nothing in the summer, when the forward would be a free agent.

8) Portuguese International Veloso has been at the centre of intense media speculation linking him with a move away from Sporting Lisbon to a host of Premiership clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and big spenders Manchester City.
European and Premiership champions Manchester United had been strongly linked with 22-year-old Veloso throughout the course of last season and have already signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani from the Portuguese club in recent years.
Veloso had been expected to move away from the José Alvalade stadium after EURO 2008, with AC Milan and Fiorentina along with the interest from the Premier League, linked to the midfielder.

1) Udinese midfielder Gokhan Inler’s agent has ruled out a switch to the Premier League for the player as none of the teams that have shown interest in the Swiss International are big enough for the 24-year old to move to.
Central midfielder Inler, who joined the Serie A side in 2007 from FC Zurich, was a target for Arsenal last summer, according to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who has since declared that the Premiership club are no longer interested in Inler.
Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with Inler in this transfer window along with Chelsea, with his agent Dino Lamberti revealing that although there is is interest in Inler from England. The Swiss midfielder will not leave Udinese until June at the earliest.

2) Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is to turn his attention to Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini (below) after having an offer in the region of £3million rejected out of hand by Newcastle United for Republic of Ireland International keeper Shay Given.
A spokesman for the Magpies has confirmed that the North East club had received a formal bid from their Premiership rivals City for Given, but dismissed the offer out of hand, with Newcastle claiming the offer was “laughable” for the keeper, which they consider to be the best in the Premier League.

3) Joe Cole is apparently planning to hold talks with manager Luiz Felipe Scolari as the English international winger is said to be unhappy at Chelsea.
The 27-year-old's position at Stamford Bridge under Blues boss Scolari seems to have become shaky and as such, he wants to hold showdown talks with the Brazilian tactician.
Cole was substituted before the final whistle during the Blues' 1-1 FA Cup draw against Southend, which is said to have left the former West Ham player angry.
Saturday’s game was the 12th time in a row he has been substituted and it appeared that Cole refused to shake his manager’s hand as he left the field.

4) Chelsea are understood to be considering making a world record bid for Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta, with Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari keen to lure the Spanish International away from the Nou Camp, according to Catalan newspaper Sport.

5) Roque Santa Cruz admitted that he may not be able to make his dream move to Manchester City as Blackburn Rovers have placed a whopping £25million price tag on the striker.
Blackburn have already rejected a £16million offer from City for the Paraguayan International. However City manager Mark Hughes, who is keen on luring the forward from his former club to the Eastlands Stadium insisted that they would be back with a revised offer to prise Santa Cruz away from their Premier League rivals.

6) Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear has confirmed that the Magpies have made an approach for West Ham United captain Lucas Neill along with submitting a formal offer for Cameroon International Stephane Mbia at Ligue 1 side Rennes.
22-year-old Mbia had been linked with a move to the North East club last summer, with Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Everton also interested in the midfielder.

7) Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear hopes he can earn the signature of Porto's and Portugal's midfielder Raul Meireles and Middlesbrough's Mido.
The 25 years-old midfielder is according to News of the World a prime target for Newcastle's football director Denis Wise and Joe Kinnear fully agrees.
Meireles has yet to make his position known to the Magpies, who are willing to meet his salary demands.
The Magpies are also interested in signing Mido from Middlesbrough, provided Alan Smith is included in the deal.

8) Premier League defending champions Manchester United’s new signing, Ritchie De Laet claimed that he still cannot come to terms with the fact that he is now a part of such a famous club.
The 20-year-old Belgian defender joined the Red Devils from Stoke City, where the fee to be paid by Manchester United will depend on De Laet's performances for the club.
"It's unbelievable," said De Laet.
"I first heard of the interest from Manchester United two weeks ago. Then I thought that it would not continue but when I woke up this morning, I was immediately called to Stoke to come to sign the papers.
"My legs are still shaking!

1)Hamburg have claimed that they have agreed a fee with Manchester City for Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong.
"The two clubs have reached agreement," Hamburg spokesman Joern Wolf said on Monday. "Now de Jong has to agree with Manchester City."
Wolf would not disclose any details, but English media have speculated that City's offer is in the region of €15 million for the 24-year-old.

2) Roma coach Luciano Spalletti insists his club have not received an offer from Manchester City for midfielder Daniele de Rossi.
City are attempting to complete a world-record deal for AC Milan star Kaka, while Italy international De Rossi has also been linked with a move to the mega-rich Eastlands club.
"A multi-million offer by City for De Rossi? There has not been any offers," said Spalletti.
"However, De Rossi is a player that is admired by many teams.

A-League newcomers North Queensland believe they have convinced Robbie Fowler to become their inaugural marquee player - now he just has to sell it to his wife and kids.
As the former Liverpool striker spent Tuesday relaxing on Dunk Island off the coast of north Queensland, Fury officials were confident they had done everything they could to pull off what would be a massive coup for the A-League.
The 33-year-old, who was released after a failed stint at Blackburn recently, arrived in Townsville on Friday to meet with Fury coach Ian Ferguson and chairman Don Matheson.
He has since been viewing the club's facilities, looking at houses and schools in the city and on Tuesday was flown by the club to the exotic island on the Great Barrier Reef to soak up more of what the area had to offer.
Fowler admits he's been impressed by what he's seen and Matheson said he believed Fowler wanted to join the club, now only having to convince his wife and four young children to make the move from London.
"I think if it was his decision to make on the spot he'd be here," Matheson told AAP on Tuesday.
"But I guess in all fairness, with four kids, his wife's sort of very happy where they are and he's got to get through that.
"I can't make any representation of what his decision is going to be except for the fact we've done our best and the noises he's making are very good."
Fowler, nicknamed `God' by Liverpool fans, has been highly impressed since arriving in Townsville.
"I have nothing but good things to go home and speak to my wife about in terms of the club and facilities," the ex-England international told the Townsville Bulletin on Tuesday.
"To say I am impressed is probably an understatement in terms of what they have shown me in the club situation."
Fowler also visited Australia in 2007 when he was on the verge of joining Sydney FC but the deal ultimately fell through.
Despite that, he said he would not have visited Townsville unless he was serious about joining the Fury and was also adamant he still had plenty to offer as a player.
"I think the fact that I have come over here shows that I am keen," he said.
"You are talking a 24-hour trip to get here, it's a long way to come to give people false impressions."
Fowler will head home to the UK on Thursday and has told Fury officials he will make his decision within a week of his return.
