Next season

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Theres a couple of things i would like to see here next season, Obviously and  the most imperitive one is the yanks fecking off and getting in someone who cares about us, like the way we do, If that happens my wish list would be just a couple of players tbh  A left back is a must, A proper what you call outside left, good stong hard defender with a brain , Second a suitable striker either to partner Fernando or to bring on when either the lad needs a rest or is injured , someone we can rely on to put the ball in the back of the net , An i want Arda Turan in a red shirt. Oh i nearly forgot go and sugn them Rafa lad your the boss  :nod

What would you do with Johnson then Nan ?
Second, Rafa doesn't like 2 up front, so that's not gonna happen. And we've already seen two proven strikers feck off 'cos they won't play second fiddle to Torres.
Lastly, unless we offload a couple of players (Babel, Aurelio, maybe even Aquaman) I can't see where the money for new signings is going to come from....

Jonno is a right back, hed still be in my plans  But that Arda can play left or right wing .two good feet , id swap him with a bit of cash thrown in and Babel ,An im not saying go out an buy the same class striker as Fernando , that would take millions and millions, but what i would like is another striker ,who is what youd call a safe bet to either use as an option or to link up with Fernando when needed. I think we missed the boat on this last season when that Tunci was available, Classy footballer ,works his ar.se off , but knows were the goal is , And i dont think he would of been to unhappy on are bench, ffs hes keeping Stokes bench warm which is a tradedy in my opinion, As i said things like this can only happen with the other two fecking off .

Considering we get new owners and we actually get a transfer budget..

My 3 top transfer targets:

Arda Turan - A fantastic player that can use both feet, very skillful and good work rate. Can play on both wings or even down the middle. Might cost a good bit but he's already said that he wants to play for liverpool.

Kjaer - 10 Mill buyout clause in his contract, this is a no brainer imo. Far better than any of these overpriced english defenders (cahill) and looks like he would be perfect for the premier league in a few years time alongside his danish teamate danny agger :) . He's also said he wants to play for liverpool.

Milito - Striker from Inter Milan. Brilliant little player, would link up really well with Torres and would do the job when Torres is injured. Not sure how much he would cost but apparently hes nearly in the last year of his contract.

And if we dont get new owners and we dont have a budget...

Sell Riera and Babel for funds to get Arda Turan :)

If he does want away, or is thinking about wanting away, I'd do a deal now while Man City have still got cash to burn, I'd ask 100 million for him and take a similar amount to what the Mancs got for Ronaldo. If he wants to stay obviously I wouldn't sell him.

I'd buy Steven Ireland who I think is an excellent player who would be brilliant for us. I'd play him alongside Masherano AND Gerrard in a five man midfield, not 4-4-1-1 but 4-5-1. I'd re-introduce Riera down the left, and I'd play Babel down the right.

I'd buy Roger Johnson off of Birmingham, failing that Ryan Shawcross off Stoke and play him alongside Carragher at centre half. At right back I'd play Glen Johnson, and at left back I'd play Daniel Agger.

I'd have Masherano as my sitter in front, like a Claude Makeleli type role, and I'd have Ireland and Gerrard bombing on to support hopefully Torres. The team would have pace out wide, would be very attacking, and would have IMHO a decent defence too. My second striker would be Kuyt, and I'd be telling him that if he can't cut the role we'd be looking to move him on.

My net spend would be about 10 mill I think. I think I'd get 12 for Aquilani, Ireland would cost about the same and Roger Johnson 10 off Birmingham (Shawcross would probably be a bit more but I'm not sure). I'd go all out for the title from game one of pre-season and feck off the Europa league.

I think that team would go very close.

That would be an extremely interesting team.

But could it play week in, week out and could it win in europe?

And you still havent bought a replacement striker for Torres when he´s injured, needs rest etc...

Also I don't think Ireland, Shawcross and Roger Johnson fit into the bracket of 'quality players' Torres was referring to when he said we need to strengthen. I wouldn't be surprised if he chose to leave if that was the best we can do.

Shawcross is ok but the other 2 are pretty ordinary.

Mick I know you think we have a pretty decent team already and that Rafa is just not using the players in the right way but the fact is our best player has come out and said the team isn't good enough. Torres need's someone up there with him of his calibre and generally more players around him of his and Stevies calibre.

your second striker is Kuyt, but who's your first striker after we sold Torres to City?  :D

bad idea to sell the world's best striker to one of our Premier League rival clubs... I'd sell him another league... would still have plenty of takers...

Right.

Next season could decide it for Torres. Not the success of himself or the club, but the injuries he suffers. If next season is similar to this season, or worse. Then we could well end up seeing the last of him in england.

I be guessing with sale of Torres , you could have whoever you want probably times x 2.
However yeah he/they  turned out to be dud while you just sold the club's main man to league rival. You would want to find a small country that doesnt have extradition laws with Republic of Liverpool

Like LFC  "Wwe just need this player next season posts"  just depress me.

It didnt seem to long ago with needed a keeper who didnt flap now we have Reina

There was time we had Diao in centre mid then suddenly guys like Didi and Sissoko were sold because our centre mid cup was  overflowing with riches

We lost Owen and his replacements  Cisse and Morientes couldnt fill goal quota and now we have striker who can etc etc

I need some prozac

But he did say that he wanted to play there one day.  Don't know if any of the Italian teams can afford to spend 50-70 mill on him though.

TORRES

07/08 : 46 games, 33 goals = 77.97% of LFC games
08/09 : 38 games, 17 goals = 69.09% of LFC games
09/10 : 32 games, 22 goals = 57.14% of LFC games*

*includes the three games we definitely have left to play, barring any miracle return

A goal machine when fit, yet funny how many say Owen is "injury prone" when our talismanic striker is set to play only 57% or so of our games. Ironically Owen played 31 games for the mancs this season, scored less than half the number of goals but was hardly a regular starter unlike Torres. If only we still had one or two players seen as surplus to requirements, although that said the trend on here seems to be growing animosity to anyone who doesn't score one in every two games, with the oddest exception.

We seem to be happy blaming anything and everything but the people and things that need blaming. 'Stars' are out injured or not performing so we blame the perceived weak(er) links, a magic signing or two and luck (with injuries) will magically make all right with the world. Some scapegoats are just too easy, 'twit and :censored:', Kuyt, Lucas, Insua, Babel, N'Gog, this imaginary 'injury crisis' when Torres has already scored more goals this season than last, when Gerrard has played more games but only scored half the goals he did last season, when we don't really rate either left-back but it's more about quantity (of injuries) than quality (of player injured)

I like the idea of Johnson at right midfield, he certainly has the talent for it. Backed up by a decent hard working right back ( Kelly ) it would solve one problem.

Left midfield has been a problem for god knows how long 10/12 years? yes we have had a few decent players there, but nobody outstanding ( christ what would a young John Barnes fetch these days ? ). Need someone with pace, but who can control a ball.............and tackle...........oh and cross the ball..............oh and stick a few in the net during the season ( not much to ask for really ).

Gerrard and Masch central midfield for sure.

Torres + 1 other up front ( dont know who, is Rushie still fit? :p )

Defence needs a good clearout, Would Agger at left back work all season? i'm sure he dont mind doing it for a bit at the moment, but doubt he would like to do it full time. Anyway we need his ball control and passing abilities breaking out of defence.

Whichever way we need a :censored: load of cash to sort this team out we could offload, Degen, Riera, Babel, Aurellio................maybe 20million there? would pay for a decent striker to partner Torress

There are many theories as to why there are less football posts on here than there used to be. This thread is an example though of why I don't really bother any more. I offer up an opinion on Torres which involves having a chat with him and selling him if he wants to leave, saying obviously if he doesn't etc, and people accuse me of "advocating" the sale of Torres, like I'm all for it. Why can't people read?
