Despite the bigger picture and context etc....

It is very frustrating. Same as the 4:4 at the end of last season against Arsenal... 2 points dropped then and another if only.

Well, next week is truly put into perspective now then. Here's what our best mates think of it: scum

makes me feel a bit sick seeing the support on there for us IMHO
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

JFT 96 - Gone but never forgotten

God Bless You All

Can those doubters now see what a good selection policy does? Aquilani?

Fecking missed the second half, from what I saw on m.o.t.d. we were a much improved side in the second half. Hopefully we can take that forward into the game against A. Madrid.

if rafa cant see this pattern he is a freaking idiot

Sadly he still rests in his own school of thought that he can control the midfield with two DMs, even though the evidence doesn't support this.

We don't score enough goals consistently enough, we draw too many games and that's because we try to "keep it tight". Problem is we've been defensively poor this season and without scoring lots of goals for then that makes for not a lot of wins or points.

08/09 : Won 60.00% Drew 30.91% Lost 9.09% (gpgf 1.927)
09/10 : Won 47.17% Drew 18.87% Lost 33.96% (gpgf 1.547)

Combined : Won 53.70% Drew 25.00% Lost 21.30%

We need to be winning 70%+ in the league to be title contenders, even last season we fell short (65.79%) It doesn't mean we have to play two (quality) strikers, we just need more goals from midfield and only really Kuyt, Torres and Gerrard chip in enough from the whole team. Even Gerrard has had a quiet season in terms of goals, those were his 11th and 12th of the season and he scored double that last season. Those who immediately think "he has been injured" need to snap out of that automatic cause and effect relationship thinking because he's played more games this season than last

Gerrard

04/05 : 10 goals in 43 apps
05/06 : 23 goals in 53 apps
06/07 : 11 goals in 51 apps
07/08 : 21 goals in 52 apps
08/09 : 24 goals in 44 apps
09/10 : 12 goals in 46 apps

Three really good seasons, three very modest ones. Benayoun on the flip side is relatively consistent with 8-11 goals per season in 42-47 apps. Torres hit the Premiership with 33 goals in his first season, just 17 last season but 22 in a truncated season this. But where else do the goals come from bar Kuyt? Babel is inconsistent, N'Gog too and none of Lucas, Mascherano or our defence are regular (enough) scorers.

Quite possibly, because we'd have won comfortably in ONE game and it would have just left most wondering "what if..................?"

Good scoreline, but against a side pretty much destined for the Championship and whose best results were quite some time ago. It was a decent performance, but against a side that prepared itself for relegation before the season started and whose most expensive signing is £3m for Fletcher then did we expect any different? SEVEN of our starting XI cost more than Fletcher, Gerrard is worth more than £3m as probably are Maxi and Carra. Burnley didn't take the gamble, they may not see the top flight again in some time as I'm not sure it's possible to get promoted and stay up without taking some risks.

Good second goal for Gerrard, although near post and the distance the keeper might have hoped to get closer. Got a bit of fortune in the opener and final goal, Babel probably offside and what a meal he made of just about getting the ball past Jensen when 1on1. Chelsea ripped Stoke apart, I hope they save one or two of those finishes for us, I really can't see Sunderland wanting to or beating the mancs so if we take points off Chelsea it could be as good as saying to the mancs "have four in a row and 19"

Burnley 09/10

Games 01-09 : P9 W4 D0 L5 F9 A19 PTS 12
Games 10-18 : P9 W1 D4 L4 F12 A18 PTS 7
Games 19-27 : P9 W1 D1 L7 F7 A20 PTS 4
Games 28-36 : P9 W1 D1 L7 F9 A21 PTS 4

Just two wins in their last 18 games, no way can you stay up with form like that, Laws' record is P16 W2 D1 L13 F15 A38 PTS 7 compared to Coyle's record of P20 W5 D5 L7 F22 A40 PTS 20. All five of Coyle's wins came in their first 11 games, he was on a run of nine without a win when he jumped ship.

Our record shows some improvement as the season goes on, but probably 3-4 points short in every quarter

Liverpool 09/10

Games 01-09 : P9 W5 D0 L4 F22 A13 PTS 15
Games 10-18 : P9 W3 D3 L3 F12 A12 PTS 12
Games 19-27 : P9 W5 D3 L1 F9 A2 PTS 18
Games 28-36 : P9 W5 D2 L2 F18 A6 PTS 17

Better defensively although our goals for has been boosted recently by home wins over Sunderland, West Ham and yesterday's win at Burnley. The early season scoring was boosted by home wins over Burnley, Stoke (both 4-0) and Hull (6-1) In those six games we've scored 25 goals at 4.167 goals per game so in the other 30 games we've scored 36 goals at 1.200 goals per game.

Ironically without Torres we've won two of our last three league games and drawn the other. In his previous absence we won three, drew two and lost just one, while in the four game absence before that we won one and drew the other three. So he's missed just two of our 10 league defeats this season, the other game he missed was a defeat

I thought Ayala was solid this game and I just have to say that Babel's finish was awful imo.  It was pretty funny to me actually he hit it straight at the keeper almost.

Ayala did his job fairly well. The odd silly free kick but his distribution was good. He kept it tidy.

Our reserves have struggled in defence so so sooo much without him
