This may prove to be a particularly sticky sticking point should we ever conclude that a 20 million pound footballer sitting on the bench every game may not after all be the best use of our resources.
Given his injury record past and present, and given the fact that he'll be on huge wages at Liverpool and has a five year contract, I wouldn't be surprised if we're not exactly knocked over in the rush by potential suitors. Those that are interested may want to take him off our hands for significantly less than we paid for him. I suggested 5 million quid might even be as low as he might end up being worth a while ago, which predictably caused a few wrist slashers and stalkers to choke on their cornflakes, but we really might end up catching a cold with this fella. I don't even know if we'll be able to apply the "Keane formula" on this occasion to make it all seem less painless (The "Keane" formula: (x-y=z. Let x= 20 and y=12, then tie yourself up in knots and talk b0ll0cks trying to make z=1).
That said, I was never clever enough to understand the "Keane" formula in the first place, being the fool I am I always thought 20-12 was 8, but it just goes to show what I know. In the case of Aquilani, x will still be 20, but z may be as high as 12-15, so then the acedmics on here can produce some sort of formula whereby x-y=4 or something (4 being the amount of millions lost). Don't ask me how they'll do it, but i do know that "taking away the number you first thought of" will feature in the equation somewhere.
