Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The fee has been broken down on here many times Leon, and while it's true to say that we didn't pay the cash up front (hardly anybody does for footballers), he will be up there in terms of fee by the end of next season. I think we've already paid in excess of 10 million Euros for him, and it's only going one way from here on in.

We will have to pay it in any case, choose whehter we keep him, sell him, loan him, play him or retire him. I don't actually rate him FWIW but like I say that's by the by, signing a bloke for the amount of money he will cost who Rafa obviously doesn't think is good enough to get into the team was plain daft.

This is gettin strange, surely a bloke who payed 20 mill for a player would think he is pretty good and presumably play him.. ???

Something fishy is going on I think

Why take this guy all the way to Spain tonight when he had no chance of getting a run out.

I think Rafa is at it with this guy and is playing a game with him and the club whereby he will try and get him on the cheap when he moves to Juve in the summer.

Shocking management.

Say what you want about Mark Lawrenson but hes dead right on Rafa being diabolical with spending money... throw in his non existant man management and bizarre team selections, you get another almighty feck up that is the Aquilani situation.

Any other year when the focus hasnt been on the yankee owners then rafa would be hounded out of the club.

i said a while ago juventus wanted rafa and aquilani and u all thought i was mad. But i just think rafa isnt playing him cos carnt risk getting him injured and fecking up the deal. There is no other reason. I mean ok sometimes his tacking aint great. But other times he has showed alot of class. I just think rafa is abit crafty and tells alot of porkies as in injuries etc

Funnily enough I totally agree with rafa not playing him, because he isn't good enough. It really is as simple as that.

...and who bought him?

The ridicule Rafa receives by the media due to the hundred million plus that hes wasted on cack is fully merited. Its then compounded by his non existant man management so he doesnt get the best out of them.

Aquilani at Arsenal or ManU would be a different player...coaches who play technical/expressive football, and managers who man manage players.

its the fact that this comes a year after the Robbie Keane disaster...for me, the fact our manager was wasted 40 million, is enough reason for him to go. He makes Houllier look like a genius in the transfer market.

The truth about his transfer fees

Four cash installments:

* €5m upfront
* €3m by 4th January 2010
* €7m by June 30th 2010
* €5m by June 30th 2011.

Base transfer fee = €20m

ALL THE ABOVE IN EUROS

Further Add ons include:

* €300k for every year Liverpool qualify for the CL from 2010/11 to 2014/15.

* €250k every time the player reaches 35 appearances; 70 appearances; 105 appeances and then 140 appearances.

* €1m the first time Liverpool either wins the Premier League or Champions League by 30 June 2014.

* 5% of any future transfer fee paid to Roma.

ANALYSIS (all figures converted to pounds using today's conversion rate)

*  If Liverpool qualify for the CL every year from 2010 to 2015, a further £1.3m will become payable.

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £1.3m (Based on CL qualification every year)

*  If Aquilani reaches 140 appearances, a further £900k will become payable.

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £900k

*If Liverpool win the league or CL by June 2014, a further £900k pertrophy will become payable. Is it possible that Liverpool might win the league and CL in the next 5 years?

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £1.8m

*5% of any future transfer fee to be paid to Roma. As an example: If Aquilani stays for the full 5 years of his contract he will be 30 years old. If he then leaves, it is unlikely that Liverpool will recoup theinitial outlay (due to his age). So - if we conservatively estimate that Liverpool receive half the original price, that would net the club £9m.

POTENTIAL EXTRA COST: £450k (5% of 9m)

*We have already paid Roma 8 million Euros. The total amount of the base fee will still have to be paid in less than 2 years!

CONCLUSION

The following is definite:

* Liverpool will pay £18m for Aquilani.

The following can also happen

* £2.2m will become payable as a result CL qualification/appearance levels

*£450k (or whetever fee we get for him) will become payable when Aquilani is sold. (This figure is just for the sake of debate - I'm not saying this WILL happen!)

The following is less probable but still possible:

* £1.8m will become payable as a result of winning the league/CL

POTENTIAL TOTAL COST OF TRANSFER - £22.45m

And this is not taking into account any signing-on fee. Phillipp Degen received a £2m SO fee,so Aquilani's could be equally significant.

Given Aquilani's injury history, who got the better deal here - Liverpool or Roma?
