fúcking clueless drivel from clueless people.

lucas is not a world class player and he's not showing 'young brazilian player of the year' standard either. but he is a tidy young player who has his off days just like the glorious gerrard, the glorious carragher and even the glorious torres. he's been doing a decent job in difficult circumstances and deserves the credit he's been getting from those that actually know what they are talking about.

Aquilani oozes class and this is the type of top class player Torres desires to play with. Lucas is an average player AT BEST. I almost puke when I read posts raving about his CREATIVITY. Lucas has ZERO creativity. What he does on the pitch, any midfielder from the likes of Blackburn, Bolton or even Hull, Portsmouth can do too. His impact to the team is minimal, ok sorry maybe sometimes major - BUT at the wrong end of the pitch like scoring own goals, committing silly clumsy fouls etc.

What Torres said is very true, we need top class players in the team to challenge for the title. And this might even be a hint to Rafa to stop the nonsensical obsession and drop Lucas before Torres decides on his future. I want to make this clear - I've got nothing against Lucas. I know he has tried his best but his best is not good enough for a team like Liverpool. And being an average player is also not his fault. The fault lies with Rafa Benitez! So pls wake up Rafa! Play your best team! And that includes Aquilani NOT Lucas!

With the sole change in last years team being lucas (Played 41, Assists 1, Goals 0, no passing range, central in a toothless midfield that no longer control games, awful in possession, no creativity as the attackers are starved of decent service, incapable of coming deep to take the ball off the defence who now have to hoof it (Carra) for the first time in years, featured in the heart of midfield in a whopping 15 losses, is rated by not a soul outside the club/nor many in it) filling in for passmaster Alonso, to quote the captain in December...

http://fourfourtwo.com/news/england/41433/default.aspx

Gerrard: I was devastated by Alonso departure

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed he was devastated by Xabi Alonso's departure to Real Madrid this summer.

......with Alonso going on to have one of his best seasons in a Liverpool shirt, anchoring Rafael Benitez's outfit to within a whisker of pipping Manchester United to the Premier League title.

....Gerrard has confessed that seeing his midfield partner depart for pastures new was difficult to take.

"Devastated, yeah. Devastated. But there was nothing I could do about it," he said in the December issue of FourFourTwo magazine, out today.

Alonso's exit (resulting in lucas stepping in having had his bags packed) has coincided with the Reds' disastrous start to the 2009/10 campaign, with five league defeats already three more than they suffered in the whole of last season, while losses to Fiorentina and Lyon in the Champions League group phase have left their hopes of European glory in serious doubt.

The Spaniard's absence (being filled by lucas) - combined with injuries to both Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres - has been highlighted as one of the key reasons behind the club's dismal early season form.

And Gerrard says it is only now - with Alonso gone - that some people are beginning to realise just how influential a player he was.

....."It's always going to be different (nosedive) when you lose one of the best players in the world (and be replaced by a carthorse who came from a pi'ssweak brasil league devoid of its top countrymen who now leave at 18) - and people are finally realising that's what he is, on the back of his form for Real Madrid and the difference in us from last year," he said.

"We've got other midfielders here doing a good job (  very diplomatic Stevie, hence why you're devastated) but it will take a while before Alonso's out of our system because he was such a top player.

...."Defensively, because of his intelligence at picking up his positions, he was so good at protecting the central defenders.

...."And going forward, he was one of the best passers of the ball I've ever seen; someone who could create something out of nothing.

....."He was sometimes underrated when he was here because of Torres, but when you play with him and without him you realise how much he meant to you, both as a player and the team as a whole."

lucas for Alonso, as the biggest downgrade in the recent history of the club.... has been "devastating"

The problem it having Lucas on the field leaves us with 3 players to create chances and goal scoring opportunites.

Whoever is left winger, Gerrard and Torres. If they don't create enough or have a less than stellar day than nothing will be created. Masch is a destroyer and a great ball winner even if he brings little going forward. Lucas moves around inside the center circle making cute "safe" 5 yard passes 99% of the time creating practically nothing offensivly. Kuyt just waits for the other 3 attacking players to create something so he can arrive in the 6yard box to poke in a rebound from what someone else creates.

That is just not going to work!
Embarrasing and ineffective tactics when we are supposed to be winning things.

And no, I do not hate Lucas or Kuyt but I couldn't care less if they both have won the nobel peace price and have been sanctified. I am only interested in them as footballers, nothing more and nothing less. And they are not even close to lfc standard. Never will be.

Glad to see round and round in circles with people repeating their opinion over and over hasn't gone out of fashion. You could say it, put it on the internet or carve it in stone a million times, wouldn't make it any more factual

Exactly... its those 2 (3) to produce or bust. But heres the problem.. who has the creativity to give one of them 3 the ball??

Who is going to "make the assist FOR the assist"?? (Alonso was so imperious at doing). Who is going to make a sublime cutting pass to a winger (or Gerrard in advanced midfield) that puts one of them in a good position for THEM to then have an easier chance to create?? (rather than the current situation where they are starved of any service and so have to come back deep to get the ball, further away from goal, more defenders to beat, so their task to create is that much more difficult)

Theres no one... there is zero, nada, nothing, goose egg, diddly squat from central midfield, hence Gerrard/Torres being starved of service, disillusioned, frustrated and dragged down by the garbage who play behind them...we have gone games without a shot on target due to lack of chances. UNHEARD OF!

....there hasn't been any cutting passes, UNTIL.. Aquilani's diagonal pass against Portsmouth for Torres 2nd, inwhich his productivty in 90 minutes statistically surpassed lucas in 41 games.

While hes ridiculed by everyone in the media due to his lack of talent and the central midfield is loose as f**k and routinely gets dominated/outpassed by dross (Reading at home was especially painful), lucas does seem a decent guy so i wish him the best when he leaves.

Decent dive for the pen..

The central mid is non existant and the back 4 are all HOOFING it as theres no one coming deep in central midfield to take it off them.. so possession lost, Lille attack.

We will be punished.

How bitter do you look after that post FFS! Great dive? He was wiped clean out. It's almost as if at the time of posting you wanted Lille to "punish" us so you could b*tch some more and say "see, I told you so" which would be typical form on here.

Well done, Lucas. See, how hard is it to give credit where it's due? Obviously too hard for whinging f*ckers.

great prediction that

So u sat comfortably during that 2nd half as we continuously gave it away as there is no possession player in central midfield??

We have been punished in 15 losses this season... thankfully Lille are cack upfront and didnt have the players to make it 16.

Aquilani must come in

You really do sound very bitter about something Kerry.  I'll give him credit for getting the pen it really was a clear pen imo and he didn't dive but was looking for a foul and they gave it to him.  He did go missing in the second half though wish he would have tried to keep attacking more.  We looked very tired at the end and our tactics went from attacking to passive/defensive inviting their attack and we were lucky to not get scored on.
