A bit of credit for rafa - Owen injured again.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Michael Owen was today ruled out for the rest of the season with injury again.Alex Freguson is stupidly blaming the Wembley pitch for Owens injury but it is simply a fact that Darren Anderton past the English "sick note" baton over to Owen a while back.

Rafa Benitez took a lot of criticism over Owen (I wanted him back too) last summer for us to sign him on a free. Rafa has since admitted that he thought about signing him on a free but decided against it,  now with Owens season over and what he has contributed to Man utd's season I think that Rafa has got the decision right and deserves some much needed credit.
I just know I will get the Rafa bashers on here now arguing against but the "fact :D " is  his judgement was right about Owen.

Who is saying now that we should of signed Owen last summer?

Rafa may of signed some dodgy players over the past few seasons but at least Michael Owens name won't be added to that list.

In Rafa I trust (well just on his judgement on Owen anyway :buttrock )

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

He was right but then again it would not have cost us a cent if he had been injured on our watch given he was on a free. Acquilani on the other hand did cost us a bob or two  :Oo:

Well, I feel sorry for the guy as a player trying to make the England squad for SA.  I still feel Capello's indifference to Owen as a striker is a bit strange, given his goal-scoring record.  I mean, why not have him there as a back up?  But truth told.  He's a manc player now so no big deal.  As far as Rafa's decision goes - yeah, I'd say he called that one right.

Michael Owen's career is just so weird.  Biggest mistake he ever made was wanting away from us just before we won the CL.

:D ... the anti's will not be arguing against the Owen issue but they will point out that Aquilani is injured all the time... it is a very dark time on this board right now where the majority refuses to stay optimistic... very cynical indeed...

If you guys think that rafa made an EXCEPTIONALLY wise decision not to get owen for free just because he's prone to injury, then WTF is wrong with him in buying the f*cking aquaman for 20M quids??

think before posting!

AND

considering Owen was far from first choice he played THIRTY-ONE games for the mancs this season scoring nine goals, we knock him for being "injury prone" but that's eight more appearances than Torres has managed so far *rolleyes in hope someone finally puts a smiley rolleyes in* and only four less goals for someone who wasn't exactly starting all the time like Torres does.

I think fergie was vindicated, won them a cup with his awareness and finish, so he's going to miss three months of the season, the way it is described with some glee by some as "misses the rest of the season" you'd think it was October or more than half a season instead of one third.

But he would struggle to get a fair crack on here, I wasn't happy the way he left here but then don't know the full story of negotiations and what was said. If he could have come back here I'm sure he would have, but if we didn't make an offer can you blame him for moving to a club that's won three league titles in a row, had two European Cup finals and is one of the biggest clubs in this league - probably the only one that did make him an offer?

"nah it's alright mr ferguson, I'll go play for Wolves or Burnley for the lack of success and I'm looking forward to a relegation battle because I've never been in one and it won't upset the Liverpool fans of whom quite a lot hate me already".

Lack of appreciation for what he did for us and what we'd have had without him. Torres may prove the better striker in the long term, but so far we've won FA with our Spanish superstar in the team, when he is that is.

Not exactly a stroke of genius by Rafa leaving us with N'gog as a back up striker.  Had Owen been here we would probably be in a far better position by now.

I think Aquilani could potentially be Rafa's biggest blunder in the transfer market, time will tell.  Owen would have just been pocket change in comparison.

definitely this

I laughed when Owen got injured but that's it, more because he's United than it is him. If he went to Stoke I wouldnt have found it half as funny

the fact of the matter is tho he did it in a cup final where he scored a goal

Keep Liverpool about Liverpool, feck the rest
