ALBERTO AQUILANI - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby made in UK » Sat Feb 06, 2010 5:47 am

When I first saw Aquilani play I must admit I wasn't sure about him but after seeing him play a little more I do think he has a nice touch, good awareness, good movement and an eye for a pass. Physically he looks a little lightweight but that shouldn't hinder his chances too much.

Problem is Rafa seems reluctant on giving him a run in the side ??? like many of his previous signings, if it continues on like this the Italian will probably pack his bags again and move on. (couldn't blame him)

Its only normal to ease a forign player in, especially considering his lengthy lay off.
We want to keep him fit and improving, be very surprised if he starts today considering the oppo.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

True.

But if either Aquilani or Gerrard cannot dislodge Lucas in midfield for the remainder of the season (as I fear) we'll be easing Aquilani in thoughout his Liverpool career. That is of course until he gets fecked off with it and hands in a transfer request.

I hope Rafa manages this situation well because it will be another 20M/Alonso down the swan-e and something we cannot afford.

Don't expect we'll see Aquaman today other than warming up on the touchline as reckon Rafa will revert to Lucas in CM alongside Mascha. Considering they'll be up against Felliani and Cahill it makes sense.

I dont think it does
Aquilani is a forward passer and a creator. We should be playing him to hammer these tw@ts

On current form Aquilani shouldn't get in ahead of Lucas or Masch anytime soon IMO.

I would say play Lucas in games against the bigger clubs were the midfield needs to be bossed.

Against smaller teams/mid table teams play Aquilani. He is more creative and ambitious and offers a goal threat so he helps us score goals which is what we need against teams that park the bus.

Lucas has started what 22 games this season? And only got one Assist.

Aquilani has started 4 games and already has 2 assists.

I have to admit I cant understand the reasoning behind buying this lad, we buy him, he seems fit but we dont play him, when we do he does come on he doesnt stand out nor does he have a 'presence'. Seems we are just a very expensive nursing home. If he doesnt step up to the mark in the next 10 games I wont be disappoined to see him go at the end of the season.

I've watched the lad quite closely this season when he's played. First of all he's wasted playing as one of the 2 in the 4-2-3-1 system. He should be further up the pitch. Also, he constantly gets himself into space to recieve the ball but more often then not the defence just decide to hoof it forward.

A couple of people have described him as being a "floater" and that's all good, but you've still got to have the determination to influence the play. For me he didn't do enough, didn't attempt enough, and didn't want it enough. I thought defensively he was absolutely powder puff, and I couldn't work out exactly what sort of player he is.

Based on that, I'm going to go out on a limb totally and say I don't think he'll be a good signing for us for 18-20 million quid. Early I know after one half fit performance, but that's what I think anyway. My money's on him going back to Italy at the end of next season.

And to think it was only two months ago that a post such as this one was so controversial. It may have been "way too early" then, but it seems it is no longer so.

Aquilani is obviously being played out of position. He's played 2 matches were he has been in the Gerrard sorta role, making runs into the box and those were his best matches.

Im quite happy with Gerrard playing on the right and Aquilani in the middle because Gerrard still has the freedom to come inside and we still have the defensive midfield that Rafa likes.

I think Rafa is trying to turn Aquilani in to Alonso though.. when he plays next to mascherano he normally just sticks to the halfway line.

Hey welcome back BigMick  :D

Aquilani is yet another flop signing from Rafa, injured for half the season then :censored: when he finally starts to play, he actually makes Lucas look half decent which is bloody impressive.

Yeah it certainly likes like a good call even though it was very early mate! Still, i'm not sure reappearing with an 'I told ya so' will endear you anymore to your fan club dude.
