It shows the standard of our squad right now when we are chasing a player who could technically be called a reject!

Very relevant point that OMB.

We could have said the same about Masherano at West Ham...

This isn't to say that Maxi isn't a has been, but sometimes people need a new start.  At the very least, if this goes through, it doesn't look like a bad bit of business...

I was listening to Lawro interviewed on a radio station here last night and he raised serious questions about this bloke. Basically saying he was on a downward slope altogether, and he reckons it'll be a miracle if Rafa manages to cajole a good performance or two out of him....

Maxi Rodriguez set to sign Liverpool deal on Wednesday as snow delays Argentina star's arrival at Anfield
The Argentina midfielder has seen his switch delayed by the snow, but reports in Spain say he is due to fly in and complete a medical at Mellwood before finalising the deal.

It has even been suggested the £1.5million-rated 29-year-old could be joining on a free transfer as cash-strapped Atleti push to get him off their wage bill.

Nearly there: Rodriguez (right) should seal his Reds move in the next 24 hours
Rodriguez has been in and out of the side at the Vicente Calderon this season, starting nine of the team's 17 La Liga fixtures.

great news spurs tried to buy him last summer...

a free transfer would be just cool...    MAXI.....   :buttrock  :buttrock  :buttrock

From SportingLife:

Argentina international Maxi Rodriguez is close to completing his move to Liverpool after arriving in the city today.

Rodriguez is scheduled to have a medical before signing an 18-month contract.

The winger will watch tonight's FA Cup third-round replay against Reading at Anfield before returning to Spain to tie up the final details of his departure from Atletico Madrid.

Rodriguez, 29, still has to agree his pay-off from Atletico but could be back in England by the weekend to figure in the squad that will travel to Stoke on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez had hoped the £1.5million deal could have been completed last week, but the former Newell's Old Boys and Espanyol player was unable to finalise the details of his departure.

The arrival of Rodriguez - a close friend and international team-mate of Reds midfielder Javier Mascherano - will follow the departures from Anfield of Andrea Dossena to Napoli and Andriy Voronin to Dinamo Moscow.

Those two deals have brought in funds totalling £6.5million, and Ryan Babel's name could soon be added to the list of departures now Benitez has been assured that he can have the potential £10million fee to strengthen his squad during this transfer window.

Benitez had previously been told to wait until the summer before spending on new additions.

Fine, not much wind some occasional sun, quite bright overall and most of the snow/ice has cleared now - but I am in Lancashire not Merseyside.  :)

Maxi Rodriguez arrives in Liverpool for medical (BBC Sport)

Argentina winger Maxi Rodriguez is close to completing his move from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool after arriving in the city for a medical.

The 29-year-old, a close friend of Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano, is likely to sign an 18-month contract.

Rodriguez will watch the Reds' FA Cup third-round replay against Reading on Wednesday before returning to Spain to finalise the details of the transfer.

He could be included in Liverpool's squad to face Stoke on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez had said last week that the club had "more or less agreed" a deal, thought to be worth about £1.5m, to bring the winger to Anfield.

"You never know with timescales. It's a question of everything being more or less agreed," said Benitez last Friday.

With Fernando Torres hampered by a niggling groin injury, Benitez is keen to bolster his attacking options.

Rodriguez can play on the right or as an attacking midfielder, although with Steven Gerrard normally occupying that position Benitez is likely to employ the 29-year-old on the wing.
