Man for man - How do we rate?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think Left back both theirs are better mate. In fact all three - Zirkov,Cole and Evra

Still think Carvahlo is better than carra
Essien better than Masher
J Cole better than Yossi (excluding current form )
Malouda better than reira

Man for Man I think Liverpool are one player short from having the best 11 in the league.

VDS vs Reina vs Cech vs Aluminia vs Given
It's very close between Reina and VDS in my opinion. Both are top class keepers and from what I watch Championship, La Liga, Premiership and CL are easily in the top 5 in the world.

Glen Johnson vs Sagna vs Zabaleta vs O'shea vs Boswinga/Ivanovic
Liverpool come out on top of this one by a good distance. As shown on Sunday Glen is as solid defensively as O'shea at the very least more so than the other three and the biggest attacking threat.

Carragher vs Vidic vs Gallas vs Toure vs Terry
Carragher is probably the 3rd best out of them. I know Liverpool fans love Carragher and he would die for the club, but I personally feel Terry and Vidic are better players. The key difference for me is their superiority in the air over him

Agger vs Ferdinand vs Lescott vs Vermaelen vs Carlvalho
Agger has been good when he has played, but has always been injured. Carlvalho has been poor this season, but has picked up form recently and had a great game against you. Ferdinand has like Agger been injured a lot and has lost a significant amount of pace. Ferdinand and Carlvalho at their best are a league above the other two, but Agger has the poential to reach that level if his body holds up.

Insua/Aurelio vs Cole vs Evra vs Bridge vs Clichy
A clear weakness here, but Aurelio is good enough to do job and Insua is young enough to improve. Cole and Evra are the two best left backs in the world. Cole is a rock defensively, whilst evra is fantastic going forward.  Aurelio is similar standard to Bridge offers more going forward but less defensively.

Mascherano vs Essien vs Fletcher vs Song vs Nigel De Jong
Only seen a bit of of De Jong so hard for me to judge, but doubt he is mascherano class. Mascherano is easily better than Song and Fletcher. Below Essien, but both are world class.

Aquilani vs Scholes vs Lampard vs Barry vs Ballack
I have seen nothing of Aquilani and cannot judge him. He was bought to replace Alonso, who I thought was world class and would have ranked first or just behind Fabregas. Fabregas is the stand out player and Aquilani will have to be worth the 20 million to compare. Think he will though.

Benayoum vs Lampard vs Walcott vs Wright Phillips vs Valencia
On form of the last 9 months Benayoum is better than any of them except Lampard. Creative skillful and scores more tons of goals rest.

Kuyt vs Giggs vs Arshavin vs Robinho vs Cole
Again here the team is lacking. I like Kuty and think he is a hardworking player, who brings a lot to the team. He is good in the air and has a knack of scoring key goals. However, he has not got the genius of the other players and think everyone would agree is the weakest out of them. I think this is the position that Liverpool need to buy a world class player to play wide right or wide left. Kuyt and Benayoum can then fight out for the wide right, with Kuyt also playing upfront occasionally.

Gerrard vs Tevez vs Berbatov vs Eduardo vs Anelka
Gerrard is world class and best out of them.

Torres vs Drogba vs Van Persie vs Adebayor vs Rooney
All the players in this are very good. Torres and Drogba are the best. On their day both are unplayable and can win matches single handedly. The edge goes to Torres with his day being more often than Drogbas

All in all I think the Liverpool team matches up very well with the other top teams and if another creative wide player is bought think will be the best in the league.

This man for man larks :censored:, and the reason England will never win anything - you don't see the Germans or Italians arguing about it. It's a team game.

Would you have said that the line up man for man on Sunday was in our favour? Exactly...

Ok
To bring a bit of New Year cheer and much needed perspective.
Are they still better than us man for man?
Do they have more "strength in depth"?
You decide...

i think it probably looks something like this at the moment... Theres 2 lineups though.. one based on quality and another based on form..

On Quality:

                                 Cech

Johnson          Carvalho          Vidic          A.Cole

                                Essien
          Gerrard                              Lampard

                                Rooney

                    Torres                Drogba

On form:

                                 Reina

Ivanovic          Carvalho          Varmaelen           Evra

Valencia            Essien            Fabregas          Rooney

                      Drogba               Torres

Well done roger, a thread that didn't need reviving is brought back up for another flogging to death.

Did you know you account for 29 of the 112 responses in this thread? That's one response more than exactly 1 in 4 of the responses being your's...................................................................
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Renia
Johnson   Terry   Vidic Cole
                Essien
       Gerrard    Fabregas
  Rooney                 Giggs
               Torres

                Riena
Johnson   Terry   Vidic   Cole
Gerrard    Essien  Fabregas Giggs
           Torres     Drogba

This is what I would go for in the 2 most popular formations, I know most wont agree with Giggs but I just don't see any better left sided player in the top 4

In what ways has Lampard more quality than Fabregas?

opinions...a$$holes... and all that...

Personally i think Lampard offers more at both ends and has consistently been able to provide the goals and assists for his side in the past few years.. Arguably the most consistent player in the premier league and hardly misses a game .. This season his form has dipped a little but overall i think hes an excellent footballer and while perhaps not the flashiest he does provide the attacking quality for his side yet and again.. Fabregas is a wonderful player, has been excellent in patches but the quality is there for everyone to see.. no doubt that he'll soon surpass Lampard but atm i think Lampard is the more complete player of the two...

And about Reina and Cech... i've never been Reina biggest fan... He's always been a worry when dealing with crosses ...  Very good shot stopper, the best around in distribution, but in many occasions he doesnt seem to know when to come out to out for the ball and when to stick behind..  Cech to me is just world class... His form hasnt been that brilliant last season after his injury but his quality is obvious imo...

Cech for the last two to three seasons has been beyond shocking at crosses - one of his main negatives since his injury .
