Man for man - How do we rate?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If we put our strongest eleven against the mancs or chelski who is the best team
I would say this is our strongest eleven:

Reina
Arbeloa
Skirtl
Garragher
Aurellio
Kuyt
Gerrard
Alonso
Mascherano
Benayoun
Torres

If you put the other teams best eleven against them man for man who would come out on top?

I think we should argue about our best eleven a bit more first mate. I would have Agger in there(when fit) and Riera in place of either Kuyt or Bennayoun (your choice)  :D

just one thing that constantly gets spelt wrong, its spelt Skrtel

Id put Agger in our strongest 11 personally, maybe Benny in for Kuyt. Even looking at the best 11 the positions which we need to strengthen are obvious
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Reina      Van der sar      Cech   very close all three great goalkeepers
Arbeloa    Neville            Bosingwa  I just went for him because he cost a lot
Aurelio     Evra             Cole  close between Evra and Cole
Agger      Vidic             Terry  close between all three when fit
Carra       Ferdinand      Carvaliho   Ferdinand and Carvaliho are different class unfortunately
Riera       Ronaldo        Malouda  Ronaldo by a mile
Alonso      Carrick              Essien Essien by a mile
Masch  Anderson           Mikel
Gerrard  Scholes            Lampard   would have been closer but for age catching up with Scholes
Kuyt            Rooney      Ballack  both different class to Kuyt
Torres  Berbatov           Drogba  Torres who else

I would play it like this

Van der sar  between the sticks
Carragher  over  Neville and bosingwa
Evra   over aurelio and cole
Ferdinand over Skrtel and Carvalho
Terry over Agger and vidic

Gerrard over Lampard and Scholes
Essien over Masch and carrick
Ronaldo over Malouda and riera
Giggs over mikel and Benny

torres over drogba and berbetov
Rooney over kuyt and Ballack

Using Saint's post with a few differences in roles and comparisons.. id go for this...

Reina         Van der sar         Cech                  Cech by some distance, then VDS then Reina
Arbeloa         Brown          Bosingwa                Bosingwa by some distance then Brown then Arby
Aurelio        Evra           Cole                          Close between Evra and Cole
Agger           Vidic         Terry                        close between Vidic and an in-form Terry, no agger.
Carra        Ferdinand     Carvalho                     Ferdinand and Carvalho are different class
Kuyt          Ronaldo          Kalou                      Ronaldo by a mile
Alonso         Scholes        Ballack                     Close between all 3...maybe not...Scholes by a mile!
Masch              Carrick           Essien                Essien by a mile
Gerrard     Rooney            Anelka                     Gerrard for me, Rooney not far behind
Riera                   Park          Lampard               Lamps by a mile
Torres      Berbatov          Drogba                     Torres by a distance

5 Manutd players (surprise, surprise!), and 4 Chelsea and only 2 Liverpool players (Gerrard and Torres...again surprise, surprise!)...

Shame Rooney, Drogba, Giggs, Masch, Deco, Terry and Ballack couldnt make the side though....

Anyways incase you were wondering the side sets up in a 4-5-1 ...something like this

            Cech

Bos    Vidic    Rio     Evra

       Scholes    Essien

Gerrard     Lamps      Ronaldo

              Torres

im guessin the 4upfront shouldnt have trouble scoring and you could easily have Rooney in there for fat frank so no worries...

more to the point though... wasnt even a contest picking between some fo our players and the manc and chelsea lads... except for Gerrard, Torres, maybe Alonso and Masch, the others were all miles behind and wouldnt even be considered when picking such a side.. shame really and shows how lacking in quality our side is... well in comparison anyways.. Throw Arsenal in the mix ans you see how only ONE player from their side makes the starting 11 (Fabregas) and you sort of get the picture as to why its been us and them fighting it out for 3rd and 4th in recent times...

I'd personally take Reina ahead of Cech and Van Der Sar.  It's a close run thing, as all are top keepers.  But, I like Reina's mobility, distribution and prowess in penalty shootouts. :nod

A lot of people think Cech is the same keeper he was before his injury. Truth is he flaps a bit now and wont dive in as much. He's got the fear.

You don't get many penalty shootouts in the league Bob  :D

I agree its a close thing between all three. I just think Cech edges it, but I can't say I have seen much of Cech or Van der sar lately so Dawson could well be right ............FOR ONCE  :p

It's hard for me to do a direct comparison, apple for apple so to speak as I think with our current squad, our best line up is not a classic 4-4-2 but a 4-5-1..... I actually think we'd be great for a 5-3-2 if we hadn't gotten rid of Keane but that's a another story. As the Mancs and Chelsea don't use it at the moment, a simplistic comparison of 4-4-2s would definitely err in their favour.

In that event, I'd say s@int's ratings are pretty much spot on. If we set up all 3 teams in a 4-2-3-1 however, we'd probably get more players in the 1st team..... at least 3.... Masch, Gerrard and Torres.

Also agree that Cech is not as good as he used to be. Going by this season's performance, there can be no doubt in my mind that the league's number 1 man between the sticks is Van Der Saar.
