SOTIRIOS KYRGIAKOS - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I thought he played pretty well as a whole in that game.  I mean when compared to Dossena he exceeded expectations and under the circumstances which he was brought in could you really ask anymore of him?  You could ask more from our owners to provide more money for quality but certainly not from the greek.  He'll adjust a bit more imo and won't look as clumsy and out of sorts as he did against Bolton.  By no means will he be a great defender but as 4th choice for 1.5-2m was it?  Good deal if you ask me.

Seemed a very half and half performance, he did most things well and is definatley a big ariel presence. He did however have a big role to play in both goals conceded.

First goal he gave away a poor free kick that lead to the corner, and second loosing out on the ball direct from thier keeper.

That said, I think he will be beter suited to these types of games where the opposition is ariely strong, as opposed to on the floor ball players.

Some good -- some bad = what you would expect from a not fully fit debut.

In Greece we call him either "Highlander" or "Alani"  the second being greek slang for "cool guy". His surname on the other hand is the Greek word  which the word "church" originated from. And Sotiris means "the one who saves".
I was on holiday when his transfer took place, but what I can say is that he isn't fast and his technique isn't very good, but he doesn't give up no matter what. He is a winner and he wil help a lot.

Liverpool's Sotiris Kyrgiakos out for four months
Greek defender likely to be out till 2010...

Sotiris Kyrgiakos, the Liverpool defender, is expected to miss up to four months of football after sustaining serious knee damage on Wednesday night.

The veteran centre-half suffered the injury five minutes before the end of the first-half in Greece's World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg, which they won 2-1 to book their place in the play-offs.

Kyrgiakos collided with a Luxembourg player and Goal.com Greece has learned that he ruptured his anterior cruiciate ligament. He was visibly hurt after the challenge but brought himself up on his feet and did not have to be taken out on stretchers.

The former AEK Athens player is likely to be out for at least four months, although more concrete news would emerge only on Thursday morning.

Kyrgiakos's injury would not certainly be welcomed by Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez or by the Greek national side, who shall now have to play their World Cup play-offs next month without the influential defender.

Not great news but I guess if we had to have one of our internationals pick up a major injury, the Grok would be one of the better choices.  Let's hope Agger's international exertions have got him fit and ready to go for us.

Soky. I thought some were calling him El Greco anyway.

Bloody silly getting injured playing one of the weaker teams in the group and not even qualifying for all that - finishing 2nd in the group
