Good point but the problem seems to be in the overall performances of the players maybe even the mentality. If we had played well in those games and lost through lucky goals I wouldn't mind. But we look like we are not interested at the moment, even our best players look like their focus is on something else.
Also not trying to drag a rumor into this thread but Rafas mind could be on other things if rumors are to be believed.
yep... more worried about our performances and formation than i am about the results... i mean, sure the results have been a big disappointment, but from the 3 games you get the feeling that things need to be done differently, and if that doesnt happen, then similar results will be something we'll have to get used to whenever we come up against good sides...

Well I probably am the worst mathemitician in the World I'll give you that. Tell me though, if we sign him for 21 million and we've only paid 12 of it, we still owe them 9 million quid by my reckoning. If they come back six months later and buy him back for 11, that means they only owe us 2 million quid as we already owe them nine.
So, we've paid them twelve already, they give us back two and take Keane back. So by your reckoning we lost 10 million quid on the deal
I thought we'd only lost 8.
Now, one of two things in your calculations has to be wrong for your result to be right. Either the original buying price of 21 million is incorrect (and infact we only paid 12) or they price they bought him back for is incorrect (and they actually paid 20). Because if they gave us 11 million quid in cash, and we still owed them 9 then they have effectively paid 20. Alternatively, if they gave us eleven million cash and we didn't owe them 9 then we only paid twelve.
It seems simple enough to me, but I hold my hands up to not being too clever at this stuff.
*Sighs.
The original deal was £20.3m if I remember correctly, with £12m up front. The rest were add-ons dependent on appearances, goals, silverwear, etc.
6 months later, with none of the clauses activated, Spurs bought him back for £11m. The add-ons could therefore never be fulfilled (and so we owed them nothing).
So in essence we actually bought him for £12m and Tottenham bought him back for £11m. Therefore we lost £1m.
If you need it explaining any further, enroll at the nearest Primary school for a term or two - they should be able to sort you out.
If it's merely an attempt to stir old rivalries (because I fail to see how it's a difficult concept), I suggest you grow up.

Lando I'm pretty sure we paid £19 million up front for Keane rising to over £20 million with add-ons. It was never £12 million.

I've looked it up on Wikipedia (the oh-so-accurate source) and according to them we paid £19m with £1.3m add ons (that never materialised).
Tottenham re-signed him for £12m rising to £19m with add-ons, so in the great scheme of things we won't actually lose anything.

Apparently not :-
Contingent Assets/Liabilities
If certain conditions are met the club has potential income of £11.6m (of which £2.6m has since been realised) and potential expenditure of £19.8m (of which £1.6m has since been realised) on transfer fees.
Transfer Expenditure
The one area that causes the biggest debate. Every year we have fans complaining about the amount of money spent on players and every year they get it wrong, massively. These are the true figures for the last 3 financial years.
(figures in £000s)
Financial Year Ending 2008 2007 2006
Purchases 69,966 69,972 41,753
Sales 29,740 25,946 16,838
Net Transfer Activity 40,226 44,026 24,915
These values include relevant levies to the premier league, VAT and agents fees. Signing on fees go straight to the Profit & Loss at time of payment.
Since the year end Albert Riera, Peter Gulasci and Victor Palsson were bought by the club for total transfer fees of £7m (I assume this includes VAT and agents fees, but am not certain)
Since the year end the club sold Robbie Keane and Steve Finnan for a total guaranteed income of £12.8m. However this amount will increase significantly should certain conditions be met.

That's assuming he realises those add-ons. What I can never find is details of what he has to do for the add-ons to be paid. I assume some of it is due to appearances, some goals scored and some silverware but is there any detail available on this?

I have searched high and low for details mate and none seem available. The only thing I did read was that we lost £1million when Chelsea beat Spurs
so presumably some is linked to silverware.

"Liverpool finally sanctioned the sale late yesterday afternoon as the 5pm cut-off ticked ever closer after a day of frantic negotiations with the Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy. Keane, who departed White Hart Lane for an initial £19m with a further £1.3m of potential add-ons, is understood to have cost Tottenham an initial £12m. That fee will rise quickly to nearer £16m with further ambitious add-ons, linked to silverware he claims at Spurs, to see up to £19m change hands again."
So my guess is that its going to be 12mill unless Tottenham win some major trophies sometime soon.. Meanwhile we paid around 20mill or so for Keane with 19mill being the initial deal with a little more spent on add ons and other fees from what i understand...
all in all its a 7-8mill loss...but anyways....

So what you're essentially saying is you totally ignored the part which said that it would rise to £16m quickly with further ambitious add-ons later?
Well done. A*.
