Three games in...... - A snapshot so far.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Only three games in and we are almost certainly out of the title race what a disaster!..Rafa doing more talking instead of concentrating on strenthen his squad. It's about time we realised that Rafa is never going to win us the title, his buying of players like Lucas, benayoun, voronin, babel, ngog, and the likes isn't good enough for a team like Liverpool. Rafa just isn't good in the transfer market, so many players have been and gone since he's been here it's unbelievable!....we just dont seem to be building a team? and it's not just down to those two cowboys (i hate them as much as anyone) Rafa has had over £40 mill to spend last season....when he has been given the money he dosen't know how to use it. :no

I dunno i have a funny feeling Rafa is gonna get transfered to Real Madrid sooner rather than later.

I know he say's he loves the club and i believe him 100%, many men love their wifes but wouldn't
stick around if another man was poking her in the bum.

I don't think we will win the league. Chelsea & Arsenal are on fire, Spurs look strong, United bounced back well from their defeat. What do these teams have in common? They have strength in depth and a very strong first team. Something that we do not have, hence why we are playing 18 year old centre backs. A Brazilian who plays more like a Scot and a farmer from Ukraine who clearly belongs in a part time football team in Norway.

I commend Benitez for what he has achieved here, but he is not the right man for the job, people need to stop living off of Istanbul. 4 and a half years have nearly passed by and it has been over three years without a trophy. At the end of the season, if we fail to build on last season, then he has to go, it's as simple as that.

There seems to a proliferation of new posters coming on here at the moment calling for the managers head. I can only assume they are wind up merchants, clueless or previously banned members. You don't sack managers after three games of a season when he's just spent 35 million quid on new players, one of whom hasn't played yet. We've played three matches, and while it hasn't gone well talk of sacking managers is utterly pointless at this stage.

Fair play to Man City, they've hit the jackpot and we've got ourselves in the poop letting two Americans ruin our club.  How on earth did we get ourselves into this mess?

It's going to get worse before it gets better.  Something has to give and it will soon.

I'm not going to panic yet. If we lose at Bolton though, then I may start panicking.

We started this badly last season. The only difference is that we had a bit of luck and results went our way. Last season we scraped a 1-0 win away at Sunderland after playing poor, robbed Boro with two late goals after being poor again and then drew 0-0 away at Villa in one of the worst games of football I've ever seen.

This time it hasn't gone our way. It's just one of those things. Yes people will be saying that we have lost the same amount of games as the whole of last season but we also had 11 draws last season. Something needs to change quickly though. The body language of the players last night worried me more than anything.

Just a quick question here and by no means meant to agitate, although it will doubtless be interpreted as such.

How exactly is this the owners fault? Is it the fact that in the middle of a financial crises they weren't able to give the manager a transfer pot. I'm glad that they didn't do this because if they had then it would have meant even more debt on the club.

It is sad that we can't just buy ourselves the league but I actually prefer winning by building the best team.

Good post mate. It was a sloppy performance last night but it was hardly deserved was it? If one of those early chances had gone in and we'd won it 1-0 despite playing badly the mood would have been very different on here. We were pretty shocking to start the year last time around but the results were going our way. We gotta win at Bolton.

I would rather the Yanks had never come here but looking at Raffa's record in the transfer market, I'd be reluctant to send him to the chippy with my money.
A senior player recently said, in my hearing, that Raffa was "a good manager but a kn*bhead" I took it that he was talking about his stubbordness.

And you especially don't sack a manager who has just signed a new long terms deal only seveal months prior to to mention the big academy overhaul project that he is sorting.

Sorry but I disagree, if we play badly then I will take the win but i won't feel good about it.

What I don't understand is

- Why Riera isn't being played?
- Why Lucas IS being played
- Why Voronin and Babel are the best options we have as subs.

To me and a lot of other posters like Big Mick it seems so fecking obvious that the solution to out current problems is to drop Stevie in to CM alongside Mascha and play bennayoun or possibly Babel in Stevie's role. Against good opposition the midfield is getting completely nullified. I'm not going to blame Lucas for this and i will agree that he is showing some signs of improvement BUT at the moment he is not good enough.

Can someone please try and explain to me why Rafa would see this differently, why does Rafa see Lucas and Mascha in midfield as the best option because I really can't understand why such an otherwise tactically astute manager is doing this.

But herein lies the problem I think, in that the players respect Rafa but don't have any love for him in fact many of them probably don't like him at all. I think for example the players at Manure both respect and like Fergie and this is why he is able to fire them up at halftime like for example at Wigan.
