And before Xabi we had Stevie to spray the ball about and do his thing while Didi sat and mopped up.  Hopefully Aquilani will provide plenty going forwards when he's fit.  If he can shift Lucas out of the team...

Or Mascher...

Lucas is our best option in midfield after our first choices, sad to say. Rafa bought him and I agree with Ciggy from the perspective it is Rafa's fault as he bought him and I've said before that I didn't think he should have. But we tend to compare him with Mascherano, Gerrard and Alonso and are surprised he's not as good. Are our expectation levels higher of Lucas because of other players in the team?

Personally I think Lucas does a decent, quietly effective job. Nothing much in the way of MOTM, but tidy. I'd rather Lucas in the side than Plessis, but I seriously doubt Rafa spent £20m on Aquilani who isn't yet fit, with anything other than bringing him into the 1st XI asap. If he were thinking of playing Gerrard alongside Mascherano and bringing in a second striker I'm not so sure he would have bought Aquilani and not spent the money on someone else.

What I do find funny is the contrary views of members on here, Lucas isn't good enough on the one hand but on the other hand people dare not say it because we're supposed to get behind the team. Surely the point of DISCUSSION is not everyone agrees to say and think the same, but to offer differing angles. One of the worst habits, other than those I mentioned in my previous post, that you get on boards is threads where it's just smileys eg :bowdown orshort posts of agreement. There should be a ban on posts of less than a sentence or simply smileys.

:D Absolutely gobsmacked to read this, even though its from Heimdall its still astounding!
To think that someone who claims to support and love a team could come off with this is beyond belief!

So we should only support the best players and not "waste our support" on the not so talented!
Does that go as far as not supporting Lucas on the pitch, should we actually not want him to do well?

Heimdall its been said many times before on here lad,You are NEVER an LFC fan,you have not even got the first idea how wrong all tht sh'ite you come out with is!
I really dont think you are playing with the full deck lad!

Its not "what I see" It's what you clearly don't see.

The guy has ability, hes quick, can tackle, is good positionally, looks for a ball (while according to some of you he only passes 5 yards   ???  ) and lately has demonstrated more willingness to get forward and join attacks.

Im starting to think that with some of you guys its like Dirk Kuyt mark 2. What I mean is that some time ago you formed an opinion that the guy wasn't up to it, but while others can see a change and improvement as time goes on, you, for whatever reason, perhaps you're stubborn, or don't get to watch as many games as others cannot or do not see this progression so stick more and more to your pre-conceived idea, and the more people disagree with you the harder you try to force it across.

But then again maybe some just like to wind people up

lucas is a very good player whos improving with every game to bounce back the way he has after the discusting treatment he got from some of our supporters shows great character for someone his age

i have always seen he has it in him and im more then pleased with his progress over the last 6months, one of the problems he has is peoples studborness to admit they were wrong in judging him (a kid) so early

Good point about Kuyt!
He took dogs abuse on here from a bunch of idiots! Now he has shut them up,they turn their attentions to Lucas.

The bottom line is there are some more passionate about picking on a certain player and continuously shi'tting on him than they are about LFC as a whole!
Personally I dont think Lucas is good enough, yes he has improved and I reckon he deserves till the end of the season to see how he goes.Regardless of his ability or lack of,the abuse he gets from certain"fans" and i use the term lightly is out of order!

Bunch of w@nkers and not worth arguing with IMO! :nod

when everyobody and their aunts were abusing Dirk Kuyt, I didn't think he was that bad. I can always see what he's bringing to the team. And I always defended him. With Lucas, I'm sorry to say that I can't see what he's bringing to the team. In fact I think he brings feck all to the team. He's become better now by not making errors but besides that he doesn't bring much which is unacceptable for a club with ambition like ours. The pairing of Lucas and Mascherano must be the worst CM pairing in recent history. At least offensively. If we wanna be beating our title rivals which would now include Spurs and City as well, we cannot play Lucas and Maschrano in the middle, period. I'm not really blaming Lucas for his lack of effort, but he just doesn't look very dangerous. That's why I would always say I don't blame him, but he's just not good enough. The only reasons rafa might have to be keeping faith with him is that 1. he has a good attitude 2. Aquilani is not fit yet 3. we don't have money to be buying reinforcement for the wings. Otherwise I have a feeling Benayoun or Gerrard would be moved to the middle.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you moron number 3

No one is talking him up after 1 game, yet you shallow tw*ts still judge him on giving away a penalty against Wigan and getting sent off against Everton. People that don't suffer from learning disabilities can see that he puts in a good shift every game and contributes CONSISTENTLY to the side, in both attack and defence yet idiots, and I don't use that term lightly come on here and blame him for the Spurs debacle when he was clearly one of the better Liverpool players AND handcuffed to Mascherano who had a total shocker but nope, your feeble little minds has to have a scapegoat and you could never hold players like Carragher and to Torres to task because they're AWESOME IN FOTBALL MANAGER.

It would be easy to simply just label you retarded and go on with the day but since you are all little trolls and every 3rd post belongs to one of you and your constant anti-Liverpool drivel it starts to grind the gears, and I'm sure others feel the same way having to CONSTANTLY defend our own.

Its obvious your brain dead as well as some of the other "Lucas bum boys" on here?............what a load of bollox you talk, do you actually attend any home games? If you do then you would see how p1ss poor he is....game after game! he fails to convince or inspire....he needs to be sold ASAP.....boy there's 'sum dums' on here....and your defo one of em'. :nod  :bowdown

So because someone backs Lucas and supports him as a liverpool player they are - Lucas bum boy ? braindead ? clueless ? blind ? have i  missed anything ? and i cant believe someone has said that becuase they dont rate him they wont support him ? is that the sort of fans we have got now who support only their fav players ? i thought we all support liverpool football club and every player that pulls on a red shirt - thats how it has always worked and not pick and choose which player to support. ???
