Mmm....i think scoring less goals than Alonso must come into that. :p

can't be that many less, Xabi for all his qualities wasn't exactly prolific on the score sheet was he?

which sums up my point about Lucas "useless" Levia. :nod

Is this broad and open minded Heindall?   :Oo:

You took Bammo's post far to seriously.. if he had put this on the end  :D  he would have been ok wouldn't he? We don't want to have to go back to using disclaimers now do we.

Anyway, Steven Gerrard was :censored: in Istanbul. There a Man Of The Match performance critisised on Newkit.

Seen this on a different site. A new song for our favourite player!

25 seconds in

Number 21, Lucas Leiva,
There's no Brazilian braver,
So give the ball to Lucas Leiva,
He's Liverpool's midfield saviour,
LOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOOO
Lucas Leiva!
LOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOOOO LOOOOOOOOO
Lucas Leiva!

Go on, sing it :D

Just in case anyone thinks I was serious :D :D

Kuyt was slated in plenty of match threads last year even when he was the best player. Now he's won people over the vitriol seems to be going towards Lucas. As many people have already said,we should support him.

As for Lucas and his pace compared to Alonso, much has been made of Xabi's better skills so I thought I'd humorously point out that Lucas being faster may speed our midfield up.

Anyway....back to the thread :p

I'm optimistic Lucas will have a good season. I hope he does. I hope he has the nads to grab this chance with both...errrrr.....'nads' ! And prove that a signing fee of £6M was not money down the pan.
C'mon Lucas. You've shown you're brave by shedding the mullet, now get out there and do us proud !! :)

Unfortuanately it rubs off on some

Personally i think its digusting to boo & throw insults at another human being just because you dont rate them as a footballer

If they walking around on the pitch talking on thier mobile i could understand but the one thing no one can knock Lucas for is not putting in his fair share of workload on the pitch

When was Kuyt "slagged off" towards the end of last season then? Can you point me to a post to back up your accusation?

I certainly praised him for his contribution in the second half of the season but I will still maintain that he is a limited footballer but one that works damned hard and is currently an asset to the team.

Hmm one post to back up my accusation....

I admire Kuyt' work ethic and his energy but technically he is a joke, the only thing he is good at is getting into position to score a goal but then alas he usually finds some inventive way to feck it up.

Hardly flattering comments from some guy called Heimdall. You can find it here in the Dirk Kuyt thread:

From April

Incidentally, just in case you ask for proof (in fact you may already have done) people here do still criticise motm performers. Lucas was arguably our best player on Saturday and yet there were slating comments in the match thread:

Lucas is wasting our time and should be released

Found here: Match Thread

Now quite frankly I can't be bothered to trawl through many old threads to have to back up my facts again. I'm not sure why you were so adamant no criticism goes on here but it does. There will always be people who slag off certain players. I tell you what, as an experiment keep an eye out for every time Lucas is unfairly criticised in the next fortnight. You'll be surprised.

Furthermore, I'm not sure why you think I'm the bad guy when I'm pointing out unreasonable negative comments towards our players and asking for it to stop. I don't think we're wanting different things.

Now hopefully that's the end of that and we can all go practice the new Lucas song :D

Lucas named in Brazil squad to play Argentina and Chile next month:

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Victor (Gremio)

Defenders: Andre Santos (Fenerbahce), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Maicon (Inter Milan), Filipe (Deportivo La Coruna), Lucio (Inter Milan), Luisao (Benfica), Miranda (Sao Paulo), Juan (AS Roma)

Midfielders: Elano (Galatasaray), Felipe Melo (Juventus), Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Josue (VfL Wolfsburg), Ramires (Benfica), Julio Baptista (AS Roma), Kaka (Real Madrid), Lucas (Liverpool)

Forwards: Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Nilmar (Villarreal), Robinho (Manchester City), Adriano (Flamengo)

[U]
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

Like I've said in the game thread it seems to me like Lucas is more suited for the holding midfield role ala Dietmar Hamann. He doesn't seem to offer enough going forward for me. He plays it too safe. He is nowhere near Xabi in terms of passing range and creativity and he doesn't surge forward or is mobile like Gerrard. At the moment he's not working for me. Mascherano's role in the team is clear. Lucas role when we play him alongside Mascherano is not very clear. It just seems abit too negative when we play both of them. The supply line is cut to Gerrard and Torres and also the wingers because both of them play too deep. This has been pretty obvious last season and it was the same story against Spurs.
