Latest transfer rumor

Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Firstly I should say I'm not claiming Ballague has been cut of all contacts etc :)

What's annoying me is that before where he would come up with exclusive insights he now seems to be revealing things at the same time as the general press and not always that insightful.

Silva: He hinted earlier on in the summer that we had provisionally agreed a £20m deal, then Valencia revealed it and we pulled out to avoid a bidding war. This may well be true but in his recent rumours he says no English club have made recent contact, then goes onto say our communication channels are open with the player.

Alonso: He's been one of the first to claim that Xabi is pushing for a deal and Rafa will only let him go for a certain price. He also said he expected it to be done within 3 weeks if it was happening. 3 weeks later and it's likely it's off but it may not be.

What's annoying me about Ballague recently (and this is as much to do with the silly summer season) is him reporting things but in such a general way that he covers his back. (e.g. Alonso will likely move, if it happens it'll be resolved quickly, or maybe not, might not happen but might do, not really sure). I suppose what annoys me most is that he used to be really reliable and only spoke out when he had good info. Now he's going like the typical journo by speculating and generalising. I'd much rather he said nothing until he had concrete info - same goes for the rest of the media

Blimey, I feel like BigMick making long posts like that :p

Finnan allowed to leave Espanyol

Espanyol have agreed a release package with Steve Finnan which paves the way for the full-back to return to England. Finnan joined the Barcelona-based club in September of last year but failed to make an impact in the Primera Division after being struck down by a series of nagging injuries.

The Republic of Ireland international signed a contract until 2010 but the two parties have agreed to an early termination.

It is expected the 33-year-old will now sign for a Premier League club with Portsmouth the most likely destination.

Pompey are looking for a replacement for Glen Johnson, who joined Liverpool recently, with manager Paul Hart admitting they were interested in Finnan.

Hart told The News: “We are interested in Finnan and are hoping something can happen on that one soon. There are a few things need clearing up. That’s all I want to say right now.”

I was gutted to see him go but now we have the chance to sign him back on a free and i think we should get him back as a backup for at least a season and see how he goes on from there . He's on a free transfer and his wages surely will be acceptable

Creative player was what we needed but hopefully will still have the squad to maintain another challenge. Doubt it will sign anymore now... All over for this summer i guess.

OH FFS , WERE SCRAPIN THE BARREL NOW

Liverpool want Michael Turner and Jermaine Jenas

Rafa Benitez is planning a double raid for Michael Turner and Jermaine Jenas.

The Liverpool boss has Hull centre-half Turner, plus Tottenham midfielder Jenas, on his wanted list.

And Turner is putting a £9million switch to Fulham on hold as he awaits developments from Anfield.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson would love to take Lewisham-born Turner, 25, back to London - whether Bobby Zamora makes the opposite trip or not.

But Benitez's late move has delayed Turner's decision, leaving Fulham frustrated after making a call to say they would take Turner - a transfer that would increase talk that Brede Hangeland is about to be sold to one of his many admirers.

Turner was impressive last season and is rated one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Everton boss David Moyes also rates him but will not pay the asking price.

Hull will sell if the offer is right and boss Phil Brown knows there could be more movement this week.

Benitez, who looked at the 6ft 4in defender last season, is tight for cash bit is preparing to lose at least one of Xabi Alonso or Javier Mascherano this summer.

And Benitez believes Jenas would be ideal to plug any gap created by their departures.

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill and Inter Milan counterpart Jose Mourinho have been monitoring Jenas' situation at White Hart Lane and both hold the player in high esteem.

But neither has made a firm inquiry and Benitez is poised to move.

The Spaniard asked about Jenas, 25, in January, when he hoped to take him to Anfield as part of the deal which saw Robbie Keane return to Spurs.

However, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp did not want to lose him at that stage of the season.

Now, though, Redknapp wants to overhaul his squad and only Jonathan Woodgate, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe are deemed not for sale at any price.

That has opened the door for Benitez to table an offer once he knows what is happening with compatriot Alonso and Argentina midfielder Mascherano.

Chelsea and Manchester City could yet make a bid for the unsettled Alonso.

Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
