My grand grand father died at the age of 92. My grand father died at the age of 96. My father is 66 and happy.

They all ate/eat red meat.

So no study will convince me of not eating red meat. I'm very skeptical about this studies. Sure you can find an stat that says that people eating less red meat have less illnesses. But the fact is that people who are able to restrain red meat are also usually more able of taking care of eating vegetables and a more balanced diet.

My point is that red meat in it's correct measure is as good as anything else. Sure, the meat has to be quality, but I won't buy the idea of "red meat is bad".

one glass of wine is good one week, bad the next.

Absolute load of sh!te... completely pointless arguaments by whoever is saynig whatever when they are saying it.

We have been eating red meat since the dawn of time...

so the heaviest meat eaters aged 71 that were asked were told they were more likely to die in the next 10 years?

who at 81 isnt likely to die!!!!

The press always talks about studies that have been done, but I would like to know who pays those studies.

Remember the alarm generated by the chicken (aviar) flu?

Well, some data: 246 people have died of the aviar flu since that alarm. The normal flu has killed 500000 in the mean time.

Nevertheless, when it was generated the alarm the chicken selling dropped a lot.

I guess that from time to time somebody decides "we need to sell less chicken" or "less meat" and filters these stories.

thats a good point Sabre. Correlations don't really prove anything. It used to be thought that vitamins made people healthier because ppl who took vitamins were healthier than people who didn't. But in fact people who take vitamins are much more likely to be health conscience and lead healthier lives in general than people who don't. After they took account for this factor, they determined that there is a neglagible to slightly harmful effect.

Is it just me Emerald, or has anyone else noticed a tone of "I'm w@knered off at the moment!" in yer posts of late

Anyway, I eat a load of things that I know aren't good for me - too much REAL butter (but ain't it delish ?); cream in coffee and on a lovely fresh sponge (ain't that delish too ?); i'm partial to the odd bag of King Crisps (both flavours and guess what - delish !!)....

I could go on and on, but then again I'll only force myself to go round the corner and raid the deli....
