Steve mcmanaman..

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

BTW, McManaman was a great player for us in the nineties. Him, Redknapp and Fowler were fantastic when they were firing on all cylinders. Unlike the other two though, McManaman's been on my cunt list ever since, along with St John, Lawrenson and a few others. I think he's a bluenose again now as well. I heard a few years ago that he was going the Everton games. He also said the Goodison Park was his favourite Premiership ground in an interview.

Owen gets his 1st LFC goal in a 2-1 defeat at feckin Wimbledon givin the Mancs the title  :sniffle

Because Fowler was out for a few games towards the end of the season.

He and Macca carried that team. If our defence had been 1/3 as good, we'd have strolled to the title.

I have to agree, though, that Macca is worse than Owen for how he treated us and his verbal indiscretions.

Brilliant player, but a total tw*t.

Well I remember at the time how he was being touted as being worth 15 million. What mugs we were when we let him go on a bosman.

He did :censored: us over though, the summer before he did leave Barcelona tried to sign him for about £12 million I think, he went over there for discussions but then told them to feck off, leaving us to wave that £12 million bye bye!
Since then a lot of what I've heard him say about LFC hasn't been very complimentary making me think that underneath he's still a bluenose. So feck him!!

Didnt the club try and sell him 12months earlier to Barca behind his back. From what I remember they agreed a fee with Barca practically telling Mcmanaman his no longer needed.

I used to love Mcmanaman.  Heard him on setanta a few months ago say we had the strongest squad in the league and thought he must be smoking to much weed.

Another great player and yet another lad from the local area. Each time one of these blokes who was "our best player in that era" crops up, it's amazing how often they were local lads. I know it's something I've banged on about before, but can it really be that the way we currently run our academy and aquire youngsters from around the World is the best way to go? Is it simply the case that Liverpool doesn't produce footballers anymore, has someone just flicked a switch and the flow has stopped?

On the question of McManaman and running his contract down, he was the first high profile player to really do it, and we got caught napping. It was around that time that teams adopted the policy whereby they'd usually offer you a contract when you had two years to run or more, if you didn't sign it they'd cash in. Owen for instance was never going to sign, so we flogged him off. It didn't make him more loyal than Macca, the club were simply a bit quicker off the mark.

As a footballer, Macca was a marvellous player. To todays team, he would be hugely beneficial, and with him we'd be 6 or 7 points a season better I should think, if you can put a value on a player like that (and you probably can't).

One of my all time favourite players, excellent skill with a superb engine to match, could run with the ball all day at pace, with the ball under complete control. Imagine him playing in the free role behind torres today  also for a player who supposodly couldnt shoot he didnt half score some superb goals. He also must have about 100 assists for Fowler and Owen alone, great player and vastly underated by Liverpool fans.

memories of him are mixed -fecking great player who i would say wasn't underated by liverpool fans who went to the games on a regular basis, the song we had for him was fecking brilliant,he was one of the first players when the team came out to have their song sung! however i have to agree that he is IMHO as bad as owen for the way he let his contract wind down to leave us the way he did-evans should have dropped him in more games towards the end of his contract with us to show the fans that his behaviour was un acceptable! he did give me some fantastic memories, great creative player for the side scored some awsome goals, but for me left under a cloud, & that is why people on here who think it would be great to re-sign owen- think again! if you slate one you have to slate them both, that is why i don't want owen back, he doesn't deserve to wear our beloved shirt again for these reasons.

I can't see the point in slating either. John Barnes made no secret of the fact that he wanted to go abroad ..... not come to Liverpool, and that if an offer had come in from abroad while he was at Liverpool at the right time he would have gone. Rushie went and came back. This is their career, should we only sign players who support Liverpool? Was Babbel a kunt because he left Bayern and came to Liverpool ?  Zenden ? Voronin ? Smicer who did an Owen and although we paid a fee it was reduced because he was running down his contract?

I prefer to remember the games they played and the great goals they scored rather than being bitter and twisted because they decided to move on.

If you want to feel bitter and twisted it should be about some of the players that have happily STAYED at the club, picking up their wages and giving nothing back in return. Players like Diao or maybe even Pennant now?
