FWIW Premier League Years 96-97 is on Sky Sports now with Macca and the rest and i dont know how we didnt win the league that year Utd were fecking sh*ite losing matches 5 and 6 but sadly we had David James and a back line that couldnt defend a cross. Owen gets his 1st LFC goal in a 2-1 defeat at feckin Wimbledon givin the Mancs the title  :sniffle

McManaman was a fantastic player , could run all day and made loads of goals for Fowler. Carried Liverpool on his back for a couple of years when Barnes was strugglin with injuries. Virtually won us the League cup and Fa cup with two great performances. He had everything but a shot, he couldn't shoot for toffee, but every now and then he seemed to just catch one right. He once said he couldn't understand why he didn't get more goals, as he was better than Fowler in training (so he was also an accomplished liar as well  :D )

Was much better in the free role than stuck out on the wing, if you stopped Mcmanaman playing in those days you basically stopped Liverpool too. He was that good. Never seemed the same player the last couple of years at Anfield, had a lot of injuries and was man marked a lot of the time. The mancs even put Keane to man mark him in the Cup Final.

there were few better sights in 90s football than steve mcmanaman in full flow. just as stu (i think) said, every time he got the ball he'd run with and 95% of the time (check that for me owzat) he'd have it under complete control. he was a defender's nightmare.

if he was playing today he'd have been impossible to deal with. imagine scolari, for example, trying to say "michael and mikel, man mark mcmanaman". he'd have given up and just left it to chance.

Further thoughts on Mcmanaman by Stmichael can be found as usual on TLW.

Bruce Grobbelaar vs Steve McManaman I love this

Vs Celtic This is the best memory of McManman I have. Then his interview afterwards aswell, just closed my eyes and hit it, brilliant.

Top pro.

Owen gets down the banks when we at least got something for his move, McMannaman stitched LFC up big time and gets nothing but fond memories.

On this Leon
to be fair to him, he has talked us up every time I have seen him on hte box like

Yeah, recent months have seen him backing us, wasn't always like that.

Agree with you there - he stitched us up and has since taken great pleasure in saying how his kids
would be brought up as Blues.

Stu talks about him releasing the ball at the right time, but I always thought he
did this when he could have beaten a player instead. He had the ability to.

Of course the highlights will show otherwise.

As I said, any respect for him dissipated with the way he left.

Only professional to - play in goal (41 appearances), Defence, Midfield, Striker, and later be Director and then to be Manager (winning a Championship) - at one club

Wasn't that for an awful attempt at a clearance or something? I just have vague memories of him and Steve slapping each other like a pair of women.

It was a shocking clearance that led to Mark Ward putting Everton 1-0 up. Later in that game, Kvarme (remember him?) got turned inside out by Cadamarteri (remember him?) for the second and we lost 2-0.

He was still a brilliant player though, and despite his deficiencies, we'd have been f#cked without him in the 90's.

Brucey had left the club by the time Kvarme had arrived, you must be confusing the two games.
