IP matching is a sign of *probability* of being the same person, but not a definitive proof as IPs are dynamic and it's perfectly possible that anyone of JBG's internet company share the IP at some point.

I for instance when I was a moderator found that an alter ego of Goat (inoquous one) had the same IP of someone I don't remember. So I told the alter ego, hey nice alter ego you <name of the member forgotten>. And the alter ego told me he was goat. Or wasn't it Goat? but it happened like that. IPs are not a 100% definitive proof.

But anyway, as long as the alter ego is inoquous and funny, no problem, no?

IP addresses have nothin to do with it (or at least in this case). My ISP provider provides a static ID for almost all of its customers (i.e the ISP provides the same gateway address for all of its customers) so theoretically there have many users on this forum with the same IP address as me.

Remember the mistakes made on the past in this forum accusing people of having alter egos based on IP addresses? Red Baron?

I am shocked that the mods have accused me of this without bothering to even PM me first - I was joking with the likes of Judge, Ciggy and Zara about Bob Grumbine - Supersub knows its Zacboxer and don't know where this is coming from. Why even look at my IP address in the first place?

Whats the problem?

it's just an alter ego. Alter Egos are a problem when they enter to insult people but other than that it's nice as long as it's from time to time and original.

I know you can see the IP in every post (no need to click anything) and just made the link between two accounts (as I've done before)

Yes.

When I was a mod I accused Red Baron of posting child pornography based on info another mod gave me about his IP address, it turned out that we were massively, massively wrong and had to apologise for it. Thankfully RB was a good sport about it.

I'm not worried about my IP address being the same as anybody elses, I only have one account here and thats always been JBG.

What I'm shocked about is how Supersub and Woof think nothing of it other than accuse me of being this other person without even PM me first to get my side of the story - there is no side as there is no story, so my question is, where has this come from? Look, I appreciate I got a bit heavy in the thread the other day about the standard of moderating, but just because I gave an example of banning a new member for not a whole lot doesn;t actually mean that I and him are the one and same person.

Seriously, after the serious mistakes we made years ago with IP addresses I would have thought LFC and supersub would know by now that you take them with a pinch of salt, so why come out in a thread and accuse me of something that I didn't do knowing from past experience that the basis of this information is flawed, without even PM me first?

Poor form lads, really, but sure, as I've often said to my great pal Peewee, tis only the internet and all.

So I hope you lot don't give too much importance to that misunderstanding.

If it clarifies you something JBG mate, it may be my fault. Months ago Bob asked me about what an IP is and I gave him a broad definition of "numbers that determine the identity of an internet user". I didn't exactly tell him an accurate rant about Class A addresses and IP v6... so I might have misled him about the effectiveness of that tool, it helps to orientate, but it's not the bible.

I didn't make him a briefing about past errors of me or other moderators, you know how we are the :censored:

Well, I'm going to sling me hook and follow the likes and Daws and others after this stitch up job.

Ok, its only the internet, but I've always enjoyed this forum and did my little bit to try and engage in it over the years but when you got old soaps like Woof - who has been on this forum as long as I have and who I used to think was a decent salt, effectively presenting me with an ultimation to volunteer to delete me account, then its time this matey took his leave.

Don't delete my account as I wish to come back at some stage when things have cooled down, but I've had my fill for the moment of ridiculous witch hunts and rash accusations thrown around willy nilly.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the season mateys, GO ON THE REDS!
