Even if GH were to be fired at the end of this season, I am concerned that the incoming manager may not have the cash to spend to strengthen the squad even if Liverpool were to adopt a sell first then re-use the proceeds to buy new players policy. This is because the planks and statues who makes a (worryingly) number of the Liverpool squad are/were overpriced and can fetch little value if resold. Take your pick, Cheyrou, Diao, Heskey, Smicer, Riise etc. We are not in the Champions' League, hence there is no extra telly money and the merchandising power can't match Man U and Arsenal. To top it off, with the wages Liverpool are paying, surely there appears to be little cash available.
Best bet? Real Madrid comes a calling and buys Owen for a huge fee and then Liverpool will be left with statue and planks to soldier on, with good passing and build-up game but "strikers" who can't score the simplest of goals to save their lives!
