Xabi Alonso is getting a lot of praise from Madrid press, which is as if the ITV or SSN were giving credit to Liverpool players rathern than to the Mancs

Any chance Alonso will start ahead of Senna this weekend Sabre? (I assume he'll never start ahead of Xavi Hernandez.) ???

The media are pressing so that happens as everyone is praising Xabi.

If Arangones' words are true and yesterday was a chance to prove their worth Aragones would choose Xabi.

But my hunch is that he won't start and will enter the game in the second half.

P.S. Unless Aragones changes the system to a double holding mid, Alonso is not direct competitor for Xavi. Aragones' have played that system against strong teams (England away friendly IIRC, Italy at home recently) so it may be possible.

P.S. Even Rafa yells for Xabi Alonso playing. I mean Rafa Nadal who writes  a football blog these days :D

In Spain everyone talks about football.

Nice to hear that the media are backing Xabi, mate.  Hopefully he'll play and play well. :nod

It would be a crime for us to sell Alonso. Only a complete idiot would fail to see why.

What was Mertesacker playing at giving Ronaldo that kind of space?  Fascinating match at any rate.  It seems as though the Germans are finding their form, as predicted.

Have to agree with bob , secondly he could have done better instead of deflecting the ball into his own net . Good game , going to be an interesting second half

anyone seen how ronaldo just play acted? He waited for the ref to blow for the foul than looked at him and than started rolling around clutching his ankle when it was a minimal touch by the germen defender

Podolski looked good. Type of player we could use at LFC.

Postiga pulled one back for the Portugese but not enough. Germans still prevail 3-2.

Who do you reckon they will play though? Croatia or Turkey?

Ronaldo looked close to tears btw. Haha.

A game of many mistakes. Mertesacker's mistake has been commented, but Ricardo's one has been huge aswell.

If i was Scolari after that i would be livid with Postiga!WTF was he doing giving away those 2 stupid and blatently avoidable fowls so close to the whistle when Portugal clearly had Germany on the ropes.
Unbelievable that a player can be so daft in such an important game at such a time in the match!

Great game all the same,i hope the rest of the quarters are as good!
