Baros was toothless again. I can't believe how some people wanted him in the side ahead of Owen. Yes he makes alot of runs and does positive stuff but he's not good enough to be a regular.

Personally though i think he's good back up and could certainly do a job when Cisse is out.

I am hopefull Rafa will play a 4-5-1 with Cisse upfront on his own. I think if he brings the right players in we could make this formation work.

Code: Select all
                       Cisse
   Kewell          Le Tallec         ?_?_?_?
              Gerrard     Hamann
   Riise      Hyypia    Carragher   Josemi
                      Kirkland

I'd like to see Alonso in the middle with Gerrard. A good right winger and a class pacey centre half are a must, as much as i love Jamie Carragher he's no centre half.

Apart from that i don't think we're to far away.

Alonso would be ideal, for the right hand side i like Malbranque (more of a central player though), Pennant and Dyer and at the back the only one i think fits the bill at the moment is Woodgate.

The chances of signing any of those players are practically none existant though so i'm hopefull Rafa can find similar or even better players. :)

Yep i agree with some of you're points Stu, i am very worried at the moment as all of our targets are all happy to stay at their current clubs, Nunez seems to be happy about joining us but we didn't even want him!

Anyone seen him play?

And if so, how do you rate him?

Apparently we were talking to Nunez long before the Owen...erm...incident!! Raffa was interested while he was at Valencia so he must have some talent. From what I gather he is pacy, skillfull and just lacks confidence and matches...he was only not a started becaue right midfield at Real Madrid is covered by Becks and Figo.....and lets face it most right midfielders in the world would be 3rd choice behind those two. I am hoping he is going to emerge as a real talent, we shall see I guess.
And yeah, I agree with most of Stu's post, just personally never been a fan of 4-5-1 formations...sooner see two strikers and one dropping a little deeper if need be.

yeah it was a bit disappointing to see us sit on a one goal lead...you have to look at Arsenal as the prototype team, yeah they're rivals but as a football fan I do love the way they play and I'd like some of their attitude, keep pressing forward, not recklessly but keep punching away and score more than 1 goal...we'll see what Raffer has in store for us I am sure, but I think this was a positive start over all

4-2-3-1 is another option and may work well cos Cisse is very strong and can hold as well as challenge high ball. But you would need fast midfielders who can dribble well to stretch out their defence line and right now none seems able to do it well on consistent basis

Rafa was looking at Nunez b4 the Owen deal, that's why he was icluded in it probably.
Still need 4 strikers to go through a long season in Europe and at home.

I thought GH did the half-time talk because we came out a different team and happy to defend the slim lead...damn!

I don't know...it could work but having ALT behind Cisse is not going to do it. Mind you I do believe he is talented, just not now (same with Sinama-Pongolle).

Yeah, Baros was dissapointing yesterday. Apart from a goal-bound shot that was blocked, he has done nothing much in my view. But I am going to persevere with his just a little longer since he had a good summer. :D

Now that we have Nunez, we should concentrate on getting a skillful players to compliment Gerrrad's drive and energy. Someone in the mould of Nedved/Rocinsky/Aimar would be perfect.

One other point, I like Carragher's work rate but as a CB, he's is likely to be our weak point at the back. WE NEEED A PACY CENTRE-BACK!
