I hope not!.... Arbeloa is a more than useful squad player. Would be a shame if he went.

Benitez will this week make a final offer of £14.5million for Gareth Barry, If this fails he will turn his attention to Valencia's David Silva. Peter Crouch + £4million is going to BLACKBURN and in return David Bentley will arrive on Merseyside. BUT the BIG STORY IS....David Villa will join Liverpool for £21.5million but will be loaned back to Valencia next season. This option is to do with David Villa's personal terms. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!

just copied and pasted this from ssn transfere rumours, and while there are some belters on there this is the one that made me laugh

if we had that much cash we would have a ruskie owner and already have most of those players.  silly season alive and well

  :D , i'm dieing over here

Disagree mate..... that's about 8 million quid. For a utility defender who's good enuff to play well, anywhere across the back four and who in all likelihood will probably be our 1st choice right back (if we don't bring anyone else) as I'm really not sold on this Degen fella yet. Seems to be a fair bargain at best.... certainly cause to think twice but not enuff for me to snap anyone's hand off.... He may not be 1st class but for that kind of money, I'd say it's better to keep him as the 1st name on the subs list at the very least.

I agree with COnnO'var, Arbeloa has a lot of value on OUR team, and its not like he won some kind of sweepstakes to get to fly to Austria and sit on the bench with Pepe.  First 1/3 of the the season last year he was our most consistent performer (mostly at leftback). If anything I would think about selling aurelio but only because Dossena, in theory, should be of a significantly higher quality. In any case I would wait until January.

Liverpool could be signing Palmeiras goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri, according to Setanta Sports. The player has made a trip to Europe to secure a work permit and some reports are suggesting that Liverpool could be his destination.

Palmeiras’ sporting director Genaro Marin confirms that there are several clubs interested in signing the 26-year-old goalkeeper.

“A transfer is being discussed, the way to pay (…),” Marin told UOL Esporte.

“We’ll look to go further tomorrow (Thursday) because there’s not just one team interested. We have signed a document with the team that forces us to keep their name secret, that’s why we can’t reveal it at the moment.”

“They came to speak to me, to Palmeiras, and the negotiations are in progress.”

"Liverpool have made approaches to Flamengo for attacking midfielder Renato Augusto.
Radio Globo says Flamengo actually had rejected a £9 million offer from Liverpool.

Asked about interest from the Premiership giants, Renato simply laughed leaving the question unanswered"

Liverpool target £3m keeper Diego Cavalieri

Jul 4 2008 by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL are poised to land £3m Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri from Palmeiras.

The Reds confirmed today they are in negotiations with the player and his club and hope to announce his signing next week.

His arrival will signal the departure of Scott Carson, back at Melwood this week after a year-long loan at Aston Villa.

Rafa Benitez is trying to juggle his financial resources as the saga over Gareth Barry’s proposed transfer shows no sign of reaching a conclusion.

The sale of Carson could generate around £10m to boost his hunt for other players, while Portsmouth are believed to be ready to table an increased offer of nearer £10m for striker Peter Crouch.

But Cavalieri looks like he could follow Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena into Anfield even before those deals are done.

The 26-year-old is already in Europe to secure a work permit and hopes to sign once that paperwork is out of the way.

Cavalieri is currently second choice goalkeeper to Palmeiras legend Marcos, but has made more than 100 first team appearances since his debut in 2002.

Standing six feet four, he was linked with a move to Inter Milan before the Nerazzurri opted for fellow Brazilian Julio Cesar instead.

Palmeiras coach Wanderley Luxemburgo has allowed him to miss his club’s pre-season training camp in order to travel to Europe.

Fabio Aurelio became the first Brazilian to play for the Reds when he signed from Valencia two summers ago.

Meanwhile, Charles Itandje’s briefly unimpressive stay at Liverpool is set to end with a switch to Galatasaray.

Benitez has struggled to find adequate cover for first choice Pepe Reina, with Itandje, Daniele Padelli and Nikolai Mihailov all enjoying fleeting careers at Anfield – and Scott Carson proving too good to spend his time in the reserves.

can't see the point in this. why spend £3m on a backup keeper?

just sign niemi on a free. he'd be perfect backup.
