Reds In Shock Bid For Gunners Ace - Report
Liverpool are reportedly planning a sneaky ₤6million bid for Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner…
Reds boss Rafa Benitez is keen to add depth to his forward line over the summer, and reports from England claim he is considering a shock swoop for the Danish youngster.

The 20-year-old has received limited opportunities with the Gunners due to the emergence of Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, with whom the Dane has had a rather drastic falling out.

Bendtner has generally struggled to live up to his billing as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe, although late last season he exhibited glimpses of his significant potential.

Wenger will be reluctant to sell given the respective injury issues of Robin van Persie and Eduardo da Silva, not to mention the growing uncertainly surrounding Adebayor’s future at the Emirates.

But Benitez will almost certainly have to replace the unsettled Peter Crouch, and is willing to offer ₤6million for a player Wenger snatched virtually free of charge from Copenhagen outfit Kjøbenhavns Boldklub.

The deal would prove something of a coup if it went through, given that almost all Premier League clubs flat-out refuse to trade with their rivals these days – as evidenced by Benitez’s failure to secure defender Gabrielle Heinze from Manchester United last summer.

I think S@int's article of Balague in the previous page is interesting.

I think Balague is right when he says we haven't made an offer for Villa. Very recently someone of the club said that when you have a top striker, your priority can't be buying another one.

I wouldn't understand Rafa respects Valencia because they're in turmoil, basically, because that's an emotional reaction of respect, and our rivals won't have that kind of consideration.

If what you need is in Valencia Rafa, go to Valencia. End of.

Jun 7 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle

NEWCASTLE United are furious with Liverpool after they offered three “nonentities” in part-exchange for winger James Milner.

United have found themselves in an identical situation to Aston Villa when Martin O'Neill went ballistic after Rafael Benitez tried the same trick with them in a bid to lure Gareth Barry to Anfield.

O'Neill never went public with the players he was offered by Liverpool, but the Chronicle can reveal that Benitez has dangled 19-year-old defenders Emiliano Insua and Jack Hobbs in front of United.

The third player was so insignificant that my St James’s Park source could not even recall his name – and needless to say United will not be biting.

Insua is an Argentinian who was signed from Nobby Solano’s old club Boca Juniors, while Hobbs has been on loan at Scunthorpe since the January transfer window.

It’s not that long ago that Liverpool were trailing in the wake of a Sir Bobby Robson-inspired United, and the feeling at St James’s Park is that the Anfield club have a nerve to offer three players who are presumably surplus to requirements for Milner.

If Benitez had put Peter Crouch in the frame in part-exchange for their England Under-21 international, then United would at least have been prepared to listen.

Even Norwegian left-back John Arne Riise, whose Liverpool stock has slumped since his disastrous own goal against Chelsea in the semi-final of the Champions League at Anfield, would have brought a semblance of interest.

Riise is expected to leave Merseyside in the next month and it seemed a fair bet that Kevin Keegan could have been interested.

Keegan told me before the end of the season that with Spaniard Jose Enrique as his only left-back, he would be on the lookout for another one in the summer.

But that was before Keegan’s showdown meeting with Mike Ashley.

Indeed, all the talk among football agents is that if any transfer business is to be done with United, it will be done through director of football Dennis Wise and vice-president (player recruitment) Tony Jimenez and not the manager.

:D  When exactly was this?

Seriously though, I'd be very dissapointed to see Insua go...

Milner is a good player not one of LFC standards . If we get him for 3 or 4 million than thats fine , he has time to develop but nothing more . the money can we used somewhere else .

Villa reject new Liverpool offer for Barry
tribalfootball.com - June 08, 2008

Liverpool have failed with a new bid for Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry.

The News of the World says Liverpool's £12 million cash offer has been turned down by Villa.

The Merseysiders offered a straight cash sum for the England midfielder, but Aston Villa still insist he is not for sale.

Kop boss Benitez had earlier offered £10m and a choice of players in a swap deal, but he may have to go as high as £15m to secure the 27-year-old's services.

£14m Villa midfielder given the green light to make his move to Liverpool: Rafa does it again!

June 6, 2008

After weeks of fighting to retain his prized midfielder, it appears that Villa manager Martin O’Neill has finally waved the white flag by admitting that he’ll allow Gareth Barry to make his move to Liverpool this summer.

Aston Villa will reluctantly allow England midfielder Gareth Barry to join Liverpool for around £14m. (Various)

If you’re a Villa supporter, you had to know that this day was coming. After making it known that he wanted to play Champions League football next season, you had to figure that it was only a matter of time before he walked away from the club for greener pastures.

Are Villa supporters bitter about the way this whole saga will end? Do you think £14m is enough for your best player? Or do you think Liverpool are getting a discounted deal?

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has today been linked with a £30 million exit to Serie A giants Inter Milan after Jose Mourinho apparently made him his number one target. (news of the world) The former Chelsea boss has been told he would be wasting his time making a bid for the England international.

Gerrard has been linked with several moves away from Liverpool in the past, with Jose Mourinho apparently very close to signing him back in 2005 whilst Chelsea boss. The 28-year old stated back then that he wanted to stay at Liverpool for life, and with everything going so well now with his partnership with Fernando Torres I have no doubts he will stay at Anfield.

I feel it is vital for the future of Liverpool that Gerrard remains a part of it because without Gerrard I think many more would probably want to leave. He is Liverpool football club and I think £30 million wouldn't even be close to what Gerrard is really worth, so Gerrard to Inter, no way Jose.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been thwarted in a third bid to lure Steven Gerrard from Liverpool.
Inter Milan made the Liverpool skipper a £30million top target ahead of Mourinho being confirmed boss.

The Italians also sounded out if the England international fancies the move, the News of the World says.

But despite Gerrard's concerns with Kop's boardroom shambles, Mourinho and Inter were told they would be wasting their time making an official approach at the moment.

FEEDBACK: Dossena not good enough for Liverpool!
20:02 June, 7, 2008
Fans FC reader Kim Eckerman feels Liverpool Football Club have made a mistake in signing Andrea Dossena.

The Reds have paid around £7million to sign the left fullback from Udinese, but Kim writes in to offer the opinion that Rafael Benitez has signed a player not good enough for the Anfield club:

“To all Liverpool fans out there, Dossena is not the answer to our left back problems!

“I have seen him play and he is not what he apparently is cracked up to be.

Liverpool turn to Middlesbrough winger Downing
tribalfootball.com - June 08, 2008

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is eyeing Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing.

The News of the World says Benitez is turning to Downing after failing in a bid for Newcastle midfielder James Milner. However, Boro's £12 million asking price is likely to prove too rich.

Bentley links heat upthumbnail

Rafa Benitez is reported to be looking very hard at David Bentley as the solution to his right wing problems. With FIFA looking to ram through their 6+5 proposal, Liverpool could be looking to add more Englishmen to the squad. English players of the appropriate quality but who aren’t already owned by Chelsea or Manchester United can be difficult to locate, but in Garth Barry and Bentley, Liverpool may have found a pair.

Blackburn may not have much choice when it comes to losing their star. Having missed out on a UEFA Cup place, they’ve also recently lost manager Mark Hughes to Manchester City. The winger is expected to lead the list of players who will look elsewhere for success.

One hindrance will be the transfer fee. With the boardroom scuffles still without a winner, there is no huge chest of cash awaiting Benitez. Any deal will have to wait for Xabi Alonso’s sale and will most likely involve a switch of one of Liverpool’s unneeded players. Peter Crouch, Scott Carson, and John Arne Riise are believed to be available.

Bentley, who has recently broken into the England squad, could be breaking into the top four so many years after leaving Arsenal.

Liverpool ace nears £16 million exit

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is today nearing a £16 million move to Juventus after the player admitted he would be interested in joining the Serie A giants. The Spanish international is currently on international duty with Spain and it is now expected he will complete a move to Juve after the European Championships. (Press Association)

Alonso, 26, has been linked with an exit from Anfield for some time now after he fell out of favour with Reds boss Rafa Benitez. Javier Mascherano has firmly planted himself in the heart of Liverpool's midfield leading to intense speculation that the former Real Sociedad player would leave the club this summer.

I must admit it will be disappointing to see Alonso leave the Premier League although I certainly can't blame him for wanting out at Anfield. He has been a terrific servant to Liverpool over the past few years and I am sure Reds fans will give him a terrific reception should he ever return to Anfield to play for Juve.

The Rumour which most of us want to see

Liverpool linked to Valencia's David Villa and David Silva

Jun 7 2008 by Our Correspondent, Daily Post

LIVERPOOL have been put on alert after Valencia revealed the club will listen to “serious” offers for David Villa and David Silva.

Spain striker Villa has been linked to a host of top clubs across Europe, including the Reds, while midfielder Silva is also being monitored by a host to English sides.

An exodus of Valencia’s top players has been predicted as the club look to solve some of the financial trouble caused by the sizeable pay-off to sacked coach Ronald Koeman and problems with the construction of a new stadium.

“For us they (Villa and Silva) are fundamental players but it’s not down to me to say who plays and how,” said president Agustin Morera.

“If very serious offers come in they will be looked at if (technical secretary Juan Gines) Sanchez and (head coach Unai) Emery think it’s convenient.

“If not they’ll say that these players can’t leave because they are important. We’ll do what’s best for the club.”

Liverpool in giant transfer battle with Man Utd
h
SOCCERVOICE.COM, 07.06.2008

Liverpool is the favourite to win a giant transfer battle with Man Utd over a a player that last season had his real breaktrough in the Premier League

Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry is close to a switch to Liverpool belived to be worth £ 14 million in cash and Peter Crouch as part of the package. But now it looks as if they will manage to convince David Bentley from Blackburn that he should chose Liverpool instead of Man Utd.

Liverpool will, if they manage to sign both Barry and Bentley, become a title contender. Both players are in the England frame and the current signing of Sammy Lee as part of the coaching staff at Liverpool could be a reason for both Bentley and Barry to chose Liverpool.

First Stevie now Torres .

Torres tells Liverpool's feuding owners to start spending

NEUSTIFT, Austria (AP) -Fernando Torres wants to be surrounded by more stars at Liverpool, urging feuding owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. to start spending more.

"In order to compete with Manchester United and Chelsea, if we can't keep up with them economically, then we have to get it absolutely right in the transfer market,'' the Spain striker was quoted as saying in an interview published on journalist Guillem Balague's Web site.

"It's clear that they have a lot of 20 or 25 million pound (US$40 or 50 million; ?25-32 million) players, and that difference is what separates us in the league table,'' Torres said. "I hope that the club does what needs to be done and we can quickly catch them up.''

Liverpool finished fourth in Torres' debut season in the Premier League and was ousted in the Champions League semifinals by Chelsea.

The season was marred by a dispute between the club's American owners, who have struggled to agree on anything since January and have often criticized the other through media interviews.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard blamed the rift for hindering the Reds' bid to win the English title for the first time since 1990.

"It may have had more of an effect upon my teammates,'' Torres said. "But the truth is, that between the language and the fact that I don't pay much attention to that stuff, or to any of the problems, that it hasn't affected me.''

Torres witnessed turmoil during his Atletico Madrid career.

One training session in 2006 was interrupted by fans invading the pitch to demand the firing of the coach and club president. A potential move from the Vicente Calderon stadium, which sits on prime real estate land, caused further ructions in the boardroom.

"At Atletico Madrid I saw how even smaller problems can affect everyone at the club, right down to the last employee, and that can be damaging,'' Torres said. "This (Liverpool) is a big club that knows how to isolate you from those issues in order to stay competitive.''

When Torres returns from the European Championship, he is expecting a tougher season at Liverpool after 24 league goals in his first season.

"The second season is always the more difficult,'' Torres said. "People know all about me now, although I know more about my opponents as well, and I know how to take advantage of their weaknesses.

"But there's no doubt that I will have to account for the fact that I am better known from now on.''
