Certainly glad we still had him with us this season, do I want him here next season ?. Heart says "yes, top man, top servant to the club" whilst head says "hope we don't have to use him". As others have mentioned he's not getting any quicker.

Although he might not feature much next season, I think he could be important in aiding the development of our existing centre-halves, especially Skrtel who could do with a similar bedding in period like Agger. He's a role model for our young defenders. He'd be more than adequate as back up, and I don't think he'd mind playing fewer games, such is his commitment to the club. Definite for me.

that about sums it up really

and in addition i think his form this term deserves another season and that is not being nostalgic for a great player who has been the best center back of my generation imho. if he had been English the likes of cambell would never had got a game at international level

great pro and a nice bloke who signed an autograph for me once

Plenty on here wanted rid of Sami last summer, and a few wanted rid the summer before that.

I'd keep him another year and it's nothing to do with sentiment.  He's still easily good enough as a back-up centre half.  He was always slow.  His strengths are positional play and aerial ability and he retains both of these attributes.

Pace helps as a centre half, but it isn't everything, otherwise John Terry would be nowhere near the England team.

Clearly the younger centrebacks in our squad are someway off being able to play in the Premiership and would be better served playing regularly in the Championship rather in our reserves

Hyypia should stay as our 4th choice, more than good enough for that role.

sami dont wanna leave. no reason why we cant keep on as a coach.slash player next season so we can use him if needed. basically id ask him what he wants and as long as he knows it aint gonna be an every game situation he can fecking do what he likes as far as im concerned.

Sami as player/manager next year :D

Worked for Dalglish, it won us our one and only League and FA Cup double.

4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

HE should be given a new contract , he's performed so well this season and before the sart of the season , he knew he was gonna be the last choice . He's been i think our most consistent defender this season and even carragher has had dips here and there . I think sami should be given at least another year to play at a club that he loves so much and has spent a majority of his career at . Top man and a LFC legend deffo

I hate testimonials, these players are all multi millionaires, do they really need another pay day?

Niall Quinn gave all his to charity, that should be the way it is now.

The days when players needed one final payday before retirement are long gone.

Rafa pledges to talk to Hyppia about a new contract

February 28, 2008

Liverpool veteran Sami Hyppia’s contract with the Merseyside club runs out at the end of the season and the player is eager to stay on Anfield for at least one more season and boast of playing for one of Europe’s biggest clubs for 10 long years.

Although Liverpool haven’t moved much in extending him a new contract, Reds manager Rafael Benitez now says that he would talk later to the former Finland international in the summer and says:

I was talking with him, but he knows we have to wait a little bit.

I am really pleased with him. The question now is to see how he progresses, but he knows my thoughts.

He doesn’t have to prove anything. We know him, and he knows why we have to analyse the situation.

Every year he has been a key player for us. He’s a centre-back with experience who’s good in the air and who can play the ball.

He is playing more games than we maybe expected this season - but every game his performance is good.

Really hope he does get it , a decade at the club

Sami at the moment has 434 games, I think even with a year extention, the landmark of 500 games might be out of reach...unless he plays as often next year as he had now.

500 games for Sami would be a huge achievement for him and the club. He'd be our FIRST OUTFIELD PLAYER from abroad to make the 500 games if it's possible. Are we backing Sami to make the 500th mark?
