If he is good enough to provide cover again next season he should stay, if not and we have better options then he goes.

players now are millionaires so there is no need for premier league players to get money from this, lower divisions is a different story

Niall Quinn & Gary Kelly both did this - not sure about anyone else.

ALL footballers should give their testimonial money to charity instead of pocketing even more money.

Great player though in his prime, don't think he is up to it now though.

Alan Shearer gave all his money to a charity.

Give Sami one more year.

Sammi's been an outstanding servant to this club.

What better way for the fans to say goodbye (should we deem that he's surplus to requirements) than through a testimonial with players he's played with and against. Along with Hammann, he was probably the best buy in GH's reign and he has served us admirably. In his time with us, he's helped us win a lot of trophies. His contributions to that cannot be overlooked or belittled.

If the club planned to hold one for him, I'd fly back home just to watch it for sure.

With regards to the money generated from the match, I'm sure he'll do the proper thing.

I'd love it. He deserves it. People forget what a great player that man is. Hail the no. 4, the King of Finland!

I don't know if Sami will mind being 3rd choice. After Istanbul he said he was happy to remain at Anfield even though the manager has told him he won't be 1st choice anymore.

he used to be my fave player and i was in awe of his talent and commitment to the club.
but the money thing is so true, all to charity otherwise it seems to give a selfish finish to a perfect player

Obviously I wasn't given a great reception the last time I brought older topics up, but I think this one is important now.

Should Sami Hyypia get a tenth year at this club? Do we need him for another year?

I still think so, because of how badly we've needed him this year. If Agger can't shake this injury off and it hits him again next year, then Hyypia will be called on. Also if Skrtel doesn't settle into English life quickly enough then Hyypia could step in again. I think Hyypia deserves another year at Anfield with the option of a coaching role at the end of next year.

I think so, he's had a good year considering his age. Although he might not feature much next season, I think he could be important in aiding the development of our existing centre-halves, especially Skrtel who could do with a similar bedding in period like Agger. He's a role model for our young defenders. He'd be more than adequate as back up, and I don't think he'd mind playing fewer games, such is his commitment to the club. Definite for me.

Agreed.

As this season has shown... even the best laid plans are liable to go awry when things don't go for you.... one CB out for a goodly part of the season. One newly signed and injured.... and one suspended at the same time.

Unless we can get someone who we KNOW will definitely be better as back-up, what better way to buy some insurance and get Mr. Reliable to fill in as and when required?

As long as Sami's agreeable to that sort of role, I say we keep him. He is no longer 1st team material (hasn't been for the last couple of years if I'm being honest as I don't feel he has it in him to do it week in week out anymore) but he's still a d@mned fine centre back.

Sami was supposed to be a bit part player this season. In many games he showed that he had,nt got the legs anymore and against pacey opposition we do need quick centre halves, it cost us at least 12 points this year.  Having said all that I would keep him.  Even if its only for europe were he has been exceptional bar the PORTO game were he was caught for pace.  Sami Has so much experience and knowledge that is priceless he can teach Agger and Skertl so much just as he has Carragher.  Hypia is one of the most under-rated center halves that have ever played for Liverpool.  Lastly and you can all laugh or sniff at this but I believe that he will get his full set of medals next year.  We are so close to winning the premiership, all we need is a few players, lots more belief and an end to rotating players in the premiership.
