I thought even with Torres in the side we'd be up against it, without him leading the attack and especially if Crouch doesnt play either, we'll never score.

Good news, we didn't need this.

i hope so too mate

skysports:

Fernando Torres has played down fears over the hamstring injury which forced him off during Spain's victory over France and insists he will be fit to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The Liverpool striker limped off in Seville after just 23 minutes and immediately there were fears that the Spaniard could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Spain's team doctor Jorge Candel was quick to come out after the game to play down the severity of the injury.

"The injury of Torres is not of major importance," said Candel.

No risk

Torres then confirmed that he came off at his own request to make sure he did not damage himself with Liverpool's match with Chelsea very much on his mind.

"I preferred not to risk it," said Torres. "I demanded the change.

"I will have medical tests, but I intend to play on Sunday against Chelsea."

The news will be a huge boost to Rafa Benitez, who would have been sweating over the fitness of his prized striker.

Well that sounds like good news, hopefully he will be okay to play. Bit of a scare there for a while. If we are to have any chance against Chelsea we need him at his best.

We've got Kuyt.

Time to test out the crouch and babel strike-force.... I would rest torres for the inter-milan clash.

You are joking arnt you Rock if Torres is ok he should play cause i cant see were else were gonna score. This is not a game to be experimenting with Crouch and Babel up front, I fancy us to win this but if Torres doesnt play erm i think thats gone out the window mate

Torres should only play if he is recovered fully.... We all know how hamstring injuries can be....(touchwood). I wouldn't risk torres if he isn't 100%...He is too important for that.

Anyway its not like we are gunning for the championship...so we shouldn't take unnecessary risks.....

Fookin typical!

Hope Torres is fit for Sunday.

On a side note, how nice to see the two Coles taken off early, while Stevie left to keep pushing to the bitter end.

Also, according to reports this morning, apparently the lads where really beasted in the two days trainining beforehand. Nice!

Internationals are a nightmare!

Fernando Torres: I'm determined to face Chelsea

Feb 7 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

FERNANDO TORRES is determined to be fit in time for the Reds’ trip to Chelsea on Sunday despite coming off in Spain’s 1-0 friendly victory over France last night.

The 23-year-old came off in some discomfort after just 23 minutes but he insists it was his decision to be substituted, and although he was set to undergo a scan today at Melwood today for his e injury will be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff he is keen to face Avram Grant’s side.

"I preferred not to risk it. I demanded the change," he said.

"I will have medical tests but I intend to play on Sunday."

Reds boss Rafa Benitez had already spoke of his frustration with the international fixture calendar before Torres limped out of the friendly clash.

Torres was taken off after 23 minutes of the game and is now a major doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Chelsea at the weekend.

It was not immediately obvious when Torres sustained the problem, but Spain coach Luis Aragones replaced the frontman with Daniel Guiza when he began struggling.

He is due to arrive back at Melwood this afternoon when the injury will be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff but with just three days to go before the Chelsea game it would be a major surprise if he recovered in time.Earlier this week, Reds boss Rafa Benitez told the ECHO of his disappointment with a round of international friendlies being held just days before such an important game and his worst fears were confirmed last night when his star striker became an injury victim.

"This is why I am so frustrated about international friendly matches being played at such an important time in the season," said Benitez. "We will have to wait and see how bad the problem is for Torres but he is a doubt for Sunday."

Benitez’s sense of frustration is heightened by the fact that this is the second time this season Torres has suffered a muscle injury while on international duty with Spain.

In October, Liverpool’s top scorer limped out of training with the national team after suffering an abductor muscle injury which resulted in him being ruled out of action for a month.

Benitez is likely to have just two fit strikers at his disposal for the trip to Chelsea with Andriy Voronin ruled out with an ankle injury. That leaves only Dirk Kuyt and Peter Crouch who were paired together in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Chelsea at Anfield last season.

He added: "We cannot change anything now so we will use the players who are fit and available."

Ryan Babel hobbled out of Holland’s 3-0 win over Croatia with a minor leg injury, although he is expected to be fit for Sunday. But the 21-year-old’s performance did not impress national team manager Marco van Basten who criticised Babel for wasting possession on a number of occasions.

He said: "He was not in a good shape. He easily lost the ball five times at the start of the game and that upset us.

"We decided we should give his some time, but we then had to replace him."

THE BIGGEST LOSS: TORRES OR DROGBA?
Jimmy Rice 07 February 2008
Liverpool and Chelsea could both be without their star strikers on Sunday but who's the biggest loss: Fernando Torres or Didier Drogba?
As one of the season's biggest games approaches, Drogba is still on African Nations duty while Torres will this afternoon undergo tests on a thigh injury sustained during Spain friendly with France.

But who is more important to their team's fortunes? Is it the 18-goal Spaniard, a revelation in his first year in England, or the powerful Drogba, whose debut season wasn't quite as inspired but who has since become one of the Premier League most feared players?

Chelsea can play Anelka while Drogba is unavailable - We can play Kuyt......erm let me think :(

Read for yourself:

TORRES OUT OF CHELSEA CLASH
Jimmy Rice 07 February 2008
Rafa Benitez has confirmed Liverpool fans' worst fears by revealing Fernando Torres is very unlikely to feature against Chelsea on Sunday.
The striker lasted just 23 minutes of Spain's 1-0 victory over France on Wednesday after picking up a hamstring injury.

The news comes as a major blow for Benitez, who is already without Daniel Agger, Andriy Voronin, Alvaro Arbeloa, Fabio Aurelio and the suspended Xabi Alonso.

On top of this, Javier Mascherano will not arrive back at Melwood until Friday due to Argentina's friendly clash with Guatemala later today.

Benitez said: "We have lost Torres and Mascherano is not back until tomorrow. I don't think it (the international friendly situation) is fair. I think Mascherano will be okay for Sunday but we will have to see.

"The news we have on Torres is that it is a hamstring injury. I need to talk to the doctor but I think he will miss this game. Normally it is a week when a player goes off like this.

"It is a big problem for us."
