Liverpool hit by Torres setback

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres looks set for an increased injury lay-off because of a damaged hamstring.

Torres, 24, had been expected to be out of action for two weeks but has now been told by specialists that he will be out for at least four weeks.

The Spaniard suffered the injury during the Champions League victory against Marseille at Anfield on 26 November.

"We first said two to three weeks, but we do not want to put a time on it now," said Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

"He will come back when he is ready, We will not rush him back," added Benitez.

"We want to resolve this problem once and for all, and we will make sure we do that."

Torres has been plagued by hamstring problems over the past 18 months, suffering the injury five times in that period.

Liverpool are currently analysing his training schedule with both club and country in an attempt to resolve the problem.

It had been hoped he would return by mid December but Torres will now miss Premier League games against Blackburn, Hull, Arsenal and Bolton.

He could return for the trip to Newcastle on 28 December.

Expected wasn't it, we're not going to risk bringing him back before he's ready again

but at least we can say We'll have our Torres back from the new year on to the end of the season, it might come at a good time as the pressure will mount the closer we get to the end of the seaon, if we're still up top. At the time when we need to call on a natural goalscorer to bang them in for us - he will return.

the team now need to understand that they must all try a little bit harder to make sure we're still in with a chance come new year, then let Torres win us that title.

We need a striker in the window if not Babel and Keane need to play up top on a regular basis together.

Against a team like Chile they are. Playing most Premiership sides is more demanding
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Why buy a player who is hardly on the pitch himself due to injuries? ????

Nail on head although it won't happen. Keane can't lead the line on his own.

I for the life of me can't understand why Rafa came out and just dismissed straight off making a bid for Owen in January. He'll cost peanuts and as long as we keep him fit (I know it's a big if), he'll guarantee goals as it's not as if we're struggling to make chances in games.

As for Torres it certainly is a worry that this is the fifth hamstring injury he's had in the space of 12 months. He's lucky that he's still very young and for that reason will recover quicker.

So I guess it is too much to assume he will play any part at all in the Arsenal game.
