half the team in the premiership team would have cough up the money needed to sign a player like Mascherano nevermind that we already got him on first option now. If we blow it up now we'll just send a signal to the rest of the team and other potential targets about our ambition and the owners backing for Rafa...

As far as I can see the ONLY reason for not signing Mascherano is if H&G are trying to get Rafa out. If they don't have the readies to buy him now, surely they could come to an agreement to sign him in the summer and thereby secure Mascherano's future. Alternatively they could allow Rafa to sell a couple of players to raise the necessary money.

What sort of "message " are they sending out to the players and other potential signings. That we are a club big on talk but a "little club" when it comes to action.

This has all the hallmarks of the Anelka and Diouf debacle, when we let a top striker go and then signed a player that wasn't fit to lace his boots. Robbie Savage is available now :D

These clowns are going to set Liverpool back years if they carry on like this.

Is it that hard to get your hands on a Wii in the UK?

I am over in North America and they are all over the place.

if ManU can pay the same for Carrick, then again for Hargraves in the same position and we couldn't afford someone with much higher caliber...then feck the cowboys for farting out all their bullsh*ts about taking the club and achieving success

Now they are talking about Berbetov for 35 million in the summer. Maybe they will not sign Tevez and we could make a deal for the two.

Rafa must sign Javier up. An absolute fantastic player and for me the best signing rafa has made so far. Yes Torres has started well and Alonso was great in the 1st season but Mascherano is fantastic as he can take a player out of the game by the way he plays and he also gives Gerrard the space he needs and the protection to go forward.

Mascherano must stay a fantastic player

If these Yanks don't give Rafa the funds to buy Rafa then they've well and truly lost the plot. I've no doubt that he'll become of them, if not the best central midfielder in years to come and it'd be a crime if we lost him. Rafa needs to make him a priority signing before getting anyone else.

here here! Good Post!
It was a bad day when the americans got involved in this club, it really really was.
If Javier isnt staying....it is a sign we are settling for mediocracy and you can forget ever trying to keep up with the likes of Utd and Arsenal and chavski.
They sold us yankee :censored: and Moores and Parry bought it hook line and sinker.

Again I have to say, that we absolutely MUST keep Mascher. Was once again one of the few bright spots on our team yesterday (along with Torres of course). SIGN HIM UP ASAP... please :)

Skysports just now:

Juventus are tracking Javier Mascherano's situation at Liverpool with interest, according to reports in the Italian press.

The Argentine has been on loan at Liverpool since last January but Reds bosses have yet to decide on his future.

Mascherano has expressed his desire to stay, but it is understood that Liverpool would have to pay around £17million to secure his services.

Juventus are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder and if Liverpool decide not to keep Mascherano they could make an approach.

Juventus have also been linked with Mascherano's Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Sissoko.

Sissoko has had few opportunities to impress at Anfield this season and Juventus may step up their pursuit if they miss out on Mascherano.

Even worse :(

Manchester United consider Mascherano swoop
07:51 January, 4, 2008

Sir Alex Ferguson could be ready to stun Liverpool Football Club by coughing up £17million for Javier Mascherano.

The Argentine international has made a huge impression at Anfield since joining the Reds last January in a complicated move, which ensured he was still owned by Kia Joorabchian.

Rafael Benitez has been told he must find £17million before the end of the season if he wants to keep the former West Ham United player, and this is believed to have caused fractions at boardroom level.

Manchester United boss Ferguson has always been an admirer of Mascherano and considered signing him last summer, and it is being rumoured that he will willing to pay the asking price to land him now.

However, much depends on whether the Old Trafford boss can offload one of his existing midfielders to accommodate the Liverpool star, with Michael Carrick likely to make way should the need arise.
