A lot who look good in their early twenties don't train on, Ridgewell at Birmingham looked a good prospect at Villa but has become average, while the fella who was at Derby but is now at Middlesbrough (who's name escapes me) is in the same boat. I can't help thinking that for the same kind of money you'd have to shell out for him, there'd be players available who would be a better fit. It has to be said that given Riise's form and Aurelio's injury problems, it really is a shame that we couldn't and seemingly can't get Heinze as he would be absolutely ideal.

keep you eye out for Heinze Mick theres more than just mutterings going on at Madrid :nod

I agree about Heinze, but I was always a little worried at getting another very slow player.(main reason Ferguson didn't play him IMO). I know pace isn't everything , but in the prem its maybe more important than in Europe, which is another reason why I think we always do better there than in the league.

Email just in from my hack mate:

Make of it what you will. He's the lad who tipped me off about Fowler coming back...

"OUT: Carson perm to Villa [and for nowhere near 10 mill. . . see below], Guthrie perm to Bolton, Sissoko, Riise staying, Crouch, Kuyt on the move in summer, Insua [who he?] loan to Charlton
IN: Mascherano deal almost penned; will be announced first thing Tue, Heinze a possible, Agbonlahor [!] a very very possible as part of Carson deal, a few Argie and spanish kids you'll never see again
Owen things dragging a couple of our lads up to northeast. . . nothing concrete and I bet its his agent p*ssing us about"

When i was in Malta in the summer, just after Heinze had gone to Real Madrid, i was speaking to this maltese liverpool supporter saying i was disappointed about missing out on him. He said to me he will be coming in January and that it was agreed before he went to Real.

Real Madrid are ready to discuss a sensational swap deal with Liverpool over the sale of former Manchester United fullback Gabriel Heinze.

The People says Real want to talk to the Merseysiders about a deal to take Spaniard Xabi Alonso home and will use former Manchester United left-back Heinze or striker Julio Baptista - or both - as bait.

Rafa Benitez has tracked Argentina defender Heinze since it became apparent he wanted out of United in the summer.

Heinze alone would not be enough for Benitez to do business, but the addition of Baptista would tempt him.

Baptista, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, has just reclaimed his spot in the Real starting line-up and scored a wonder goal against archrivals Barcelona last week.

I don't believe this for a minute but it may wind Sabre and Lando up anyway :D

Only joking  :)

Hi Sandra,

I don't hear anything about Baptista. When the season started, Schuster didn't use to count with him but right now he is very important for the team!

We wish you a very happy New Year for you and all the family :-)

cheers
Paloma

Dont even go there with Xabi

Ive never heard of him  ???

I don't know much about him Ciggy but I think he's a creative second striker  :)  Only young anyway 24/25 , but can't recall seeing him play.

Pandev is an exceptional attacking talent; a little like petrov in his pace, but more comfortable playing centrally than petrov. would be a great signing were it to happen...
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

i've also heard that juventus want sissoko and are offering jonathan zebina in exchange. don't know how much truth there is in it but zebina is a french international who we were linked with constantly during houlliers time here. he's a centre half who can also fill in at right back.

If I was Rafa I would be tempted by a swap deal for Alonso that involved Heinze and Baptista.

I agree, the 2 are class and would provide great strength to the squad.

If there's any truth in this rumour I'd be telling Madrid to feck off!! Heinze and Baptista for Alonso ???  how many times do they think they can fuck Liverpool FC over??

Heinze is a decent player and Baptista has done alright in spain but stunk like a prozzies knickers whilst at the arse last year!!

The only reason I could see for Rafa flogging Xabi to them is if he's jumping ship (or getting pushed overboard) to them in the summer!

If we end up with Baptista we can always save him for the League Cup games, I seem to remember he did OK in them ???. The question we need to ask ourselves is, is Baptista better than Kuyt ( thats a hard one for some to answer), Crouch or Voronin

Also as far as the Heinze deal is concerned, is it worth losing Xabi to not only get a player we desperately want/need but also to see the look on Fergies face :;): I think that could well push the silly old sod over the edge.

We lose a midfielder to obtain a deffender and a second striker with out having to spend a penny.
