Mash is the one of our most important players in this club after Gerrad, Torres, Reina and Carra.....

Should sign him up.

Article from Setanta

"Javier Mascherano has urged Tom Hicks and George Gillett to end his Liverpool limbo one way or the other, with the Argentinian midfielder admitting that the delay over a deal has now made it ‘more difficult’ to realise his dream of moving to Anfield on a permanent basis.

Mascherano’s 18-month loan deal is set to expire in June and Rafa Benitez has made no secret of how keen he is to ensure that the Argentina international becomes a long-term fixture in his squad, avoiding the clutches of reported suitors Manchester City and Barcelona in the process.

Co-owners Gillett and Hicks have so far failed to agree on a £17 million deal with the player’s owners MSI though, and Mascherano has warned the uncertainty must be ended soon if he is to join the Merseyside club permanently.

"It's simple," said Mascherano. "With the time that has passed it will now be more difficult for me to stay here because I need to do something about my future.

"It is a really difficult situation because I have been talking a lot about how I want to stay here but, now, it doesn't depend on me.

"I have done everything to stay but now the owners have to decide if they want to buy me or not. They have to decide."

What is clear is that Mascherano is determined to remain a Liverpool player as he has proved himself one of The Premier League’s finest holding midfielders at Anfield, putting the nightmare of his spell at West Ham last season behind him.

"I have to say thank you to everyone at Liverpool because I feel like this is my home," he added.

"It is difficult for me because I have gone from being at West Ham, where it wasn't good for me, to Liverpool, where I am really happy.

"I want to stay but it doesn't depend on me and it will be difficult because of the amount of time that has passed and I need to do something about my future."

---------------------

He was brilliant again on Sunday, signing him up should be the number 1 transfer priority for this club...

Agreed...think we could sell him to barca or real madrid for 17 to 20 million pounds..

Yeah it's really a pointless argument. We're not selling Xabi to buy Mascherano anyway.

Madness that people would contemplate selling Xabi. He's as important a player as we've got. We are a far better team with Xabi in, than without him.

When does the transfer window open. Surley if we dont pick him up on a permanent deal then that will seriously :censored: Rafa off and could play a part in his decision to stay or leave the club as a result of this feud with the owners.

Today Bav, and I have just been reading that the actual fee is "only" £9million with the rest being Mascher's wages. If we let Mascherano walk away now , I think we are in for a very rough ride with these two American idiots in charge.

9 mil why so cheap? Where is the £17mil figure from then?

Not that im complaining but if it really is 9mil I think id be even more worried if we cant stump that much cash without having to sell. :( 9 mil what the :censored:, how can they expect us to build a winning league side with so many obstacles on our own front doorstep. Makes me :censored: sick sometimes..

The £17million is signing fee (£9million) + wages for 4 years £8million (40k p.w.)

I would rather delay the new stadium one year than lose Mascher.

The way he reclaimed possession etc.. against City was the way of a true master, he has to be pivotal to Rafa's plans to regain the title.

If we lose him, we sink back into obscurity with Newcastle and Spurs.

Its a no-brainer so Parry should feel comfortable with it...

I was just watching highlights of the derby earlier on in the season. When Kuyt scored that first penalty everyone celebrated with a lot of passion but I was happy to also see Mascherano screaming with delight too. It will be a huge loss if he has to leave becasue we couldnt pull out the cash.

We better sign this guy. I will lose faith in the Lpool hiriarchy if we loose him.

What worries me most is if we lose him, someone gains a gem. Apparently Barca are in the wings....

But what would be even worse if is Irony struck.
After us trying to get Heinze from Man Ure, I bet they would try to come in for his signature......

If that happens....i'm off to America to support Baseball or some sh*t like that..... :(

You've depressed me now :(  :D

Unfortunately the situation is until Mash is signed and we see some more positive signings to take us forward then a lot of fans are still going to be asking a lot of questions of our owners. Ok I don't think they should be giving our targets away or letting it be known how much cash we are spending but the vibes I'm getting aren't good, especially if we want to bring in a defender aswell.
