He will go through phases when he misses easy goals or loses apparently easy balls. It has been like this so far. In my experience, putting too much effort in defending him during those phases is simply a waste of time: lay back, take some time and he will defend himself easily, coming back to his playing standards after a few matches.

Excellent post, sums up Torres nicely. Also worth pointing out that playing Torres from the start like yesterday is not a nailed-on guarantee we will win the game.

What do you Spanish guys think of Javi Martinez from Bilbao? What kind of midfielder is he and do you think that we are seriously linked with him?

He's a holding midfielder or central midfielder. Should he come here he'd compete with Mascherano and Alonso for that role, and he's worse than this two.

He's simply too young mate. Bilbao paid 6M € for him, a high sum for a youngster, because they hadn't much to select from (they need basque or Navarra players).

He's not ready for this level yet, IMHO. Yesteryear he had to play a lot due to the injuries of his team mates Orbaiz and Tiko, and the doping case of Gurpegi. He's in a stage in which he must get experience and this club at the moment is too big for him IMHO.

Thanks for the info. Maybe we are linked with him because one of our midfield players might be leaving soon(possibly Sissoko) and Rafa is looking for a replacement.

I don't think so because they're not in the same league of quality, but he could be perfectly a replacement for Sissoko as Ruskiy says.

Bilbao has confirmed the interest of Liverpool... so I guess it's more than a rumour this time. :oh:

Rafa Benitez is not planning a swoop for Athletic Bilbao youngster Javi Martinez.
The Spanish media claimed over the weekend that the 19-year-old midfielder could be Anfield bound.

However, Benitez today told Liverpoolfc.tv: "He is a young player who we know about because Bilbao paid good money for him.

"But we are not watching the player and are not thinking about signing him, as I have read in the Spanish press."

Reports suggested the Reds were in a two-way battle with Italian side Fiorentina over the £18million-rated youngster.

The king of Spain's recent undiplomatic outburst at the Venezuelan president has become a ringtone hit across Spain.
An estimated 500,000 people have downloaded the insult featuring the words "Why don't you shut up?", generating a reported 1.5m euros ($2m).

King Juan Carlos asked Hugo Chavez to "shut up" at a summit in Chile last week after the president said Spain's ex-PM Jose Maria Aznar was a "fascist".

Branded mugs, t-shirts and websites featuring the row are also profitable.

In Venezuela, a group of students who oppose Mr Chavez's government have also been downloading the ringtone, a US newspaper reported.

"It's a form of protest," a 21-year-old student in Caracas told the Miami Herald. "It's something that a lot of people would like to tell the president."

Companies selling the ringtones have avoided legal problems concerning breach of the king's image rights by using an actor to voice the line.

'No crisis'

The spat began at the Ibero-American Summit in Chile's capital, Santiago, last Saturday when Mr Chavez called former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, a close ally of US President George W Bush, a fascist, adding "fascists are not human. A snake is more human."

Current Spanish PM Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero then said: "[Former Prime Minister] Aznar was democratically elected by the Spanish people and was a legitimate representative of the Spanish people."

The row escalated when Mr Chavez said the king was "imprudent" and asked if he knew in advance of the 2002 coup against him.

President Chavez later accused the king of "arrogance" but said he did not want a political crisis with Spain - only that Venezuela's head of state be respected.

Spain has said it hopes for a swift return to normal diplomatic relations.

As usual, here people make a joke of aboslutely everything that happens around...that's a good thing of us I think. As far as it concerns me, the king is the one in charge of informing when I have a new message in my cell

By the way, Sabre, you can't hide what team you support uh? :laugh:

But, yeah, i agree with you...the guy is not worth the sum people was talking about and, also, he needs to gain loads of experience before signing for a club like LFC. So far, he may just dream of it.

IMHO, Rafa sometimes gets too far when it comes to sign future/potential starplayers...I think that is the best way to create and develop a serious long-term project, but not at any cost.

I cannot stand Bilbao mate, I dislike more than Madrid and Atletico, because the latter at least let us work and do not try to steal the players. It wasn't difficult to me to insult Torres last season and to love him this year, when he joins Liverpool he's not an archenemy any more.

Same applies to Rafa, coming from Real Madrid ranks. Arbeloa came from Deportivo, which I like, and Reina from Villareal-Barcelona, which is nice in my book. But loving a Bilbao player would test my red-ness. I guess that I'd love him anyway as soon as he scored a couple of goals, but it would be a hard one to swallow

BTW, that point of criticism to Rafa is fair enough. I hope that if we sign up players is so that we see one day at least a couple of them in the first team.

Sabre, tanto tiempo... como esta realmente el tema de Benitez? tan mal como lo pintan por España? siento no poder entrar tanto como me gustaria, a ver si no pierdo el hilo ahora... enhorabuena por el triunfo, a ver si se gana en Francia tambien.

Aupa! Esta es tu casa, cuando quieras. Si quieres te ayudo a hacer una firma del tamaño tradicional del foro, me defiendo con el photoshop.

En principio no di mucho crédito a lo aparecido en prensa, pero diría que las cosas deben estar lo suficientemente mal como para que la grada en masa se haya movilizado en favor de Rafa. Las muestras de apoyo fueron constantes en el partido de ayer, y también son palpables en llamadas a radios y foros de internet.

El propio Rafa dijo que una reunión que se produjo cuando el partido del Arsenal fue muy positiva, pero luego algo cambió, y en ese contexto es cuando han pedido a Rafa que se concentre en el rectángulo de juego.

No parece probable una destitución a la Española fulminante, sin embargo. Los dueños norteamericanos deberían indemnizar a Rafa con 6 millones de Euros, y pondrían a toda la masa social en contra.

Hasta navidades no creo que pase nada, entonces, todo dependerá de las relaciones Rafa-Norteamericanos. En definitiva yo creo que dependerá de cómo vayan las cosas en Champions y liga por esas fechas.

Espero que Rafa se quede, es bueno para el club.

P.S. Torres está formidable, tengo que admitir.

Buenas noches Sabre, lo siento por no contestarte antes, asi como pido disculpas si mi firma se excede, y a la vez te agradeceria si me haces una del tamaño adecuado, yo no domino estas cosas.

In Rafa I trust too :;):

asi que espero que siga en el LFC, por el bien del propio equipo. Se hablo que los dirigentes no querian poner mas dinero para fichajes pero el a los que queria serian libres... ni idea, no se cuanto habra de cierto en esto.

P.D. Lo de Torres, yo que lo veia todos los domingos, sabia de lo que era capaz, arrepentidos los quiere dios...jeje
