Very surprised by that, I must say, but it's not like it's not a strong bench regardless.

I hope he's not injured  :( I am surprised Kuyt is not on the bench. Maybe he will give him a good long rest.

I would've like to have seen Kewell in replace of Aurelio.

It will take more than two games mate.

Brilliant.  No changes, this will breed confidence in the players already before they even go out there and I expect a thrashing today.

I'm going out on the piss shortly and I'm still a little topped up from last night.  If we trounce them like last season, tomorrow's a write-off.  Won't even get out of bed I'm thinking.

Agreeed over Kewell.  If he's fit, I'm very unhappy that he's not even on the bench.  Blinder of a player, he's still got a lot to offer.

dont see why we needed finnan on the bench... kewell could of been an asset comming on 60th minute-ish if we still 0-0!!!

if Arbeloa, Aurelio got injured, could easily move riise to the back...

riise > kewell?! never >=[!

but agreed, strong bench none-the-less.

When you consider the players that arn't involved today, we have some squad!  Alonso, Momo, Kuyt, Kewell, Agger.

Wouldn't argue with any of the inclusions on the bench to be honest.

I think Finnan on the bench gives us good cover right across the back. Obviously Riise and Arbeloa can both play left back, but Arbeloa can also play centre back as well if there's a problem there, with Finnan dropping in at right back. As Aurelio was out for so long, it seems sensible to me.

It's a big squad and a strong one. I think this is a good message to Kewell - you can't walk straight back in, and if everyone does a job today, he'll have to work hard to displace someone from the bench, let alone the first 11. Can't think of too many players I'd want in my team ahead of a fit and hungry Kewell, so let's hope he's working hard behind the scenes to ensure he's in contention for a starting berth soon.
