I believe it was the train journey to rome in 1977 for the european cup final mate, the rail network wasnt as good as it is today, and considering it is sh*t today then imagine what it was like then

Sir Alex Ferguson, with characteristic obscenity, says his greatest achievement is “knocking Liverpool off their f****** perch”.

He did nothing of the sort.

Liverpool's decline was caused in part by the trauma caused by Hillsborough and Souness' transfers which caused a self-destruction which set us back years.

i think its harsh blaming the state of the squad on souness mate, i seem to remember dalglish splashing the cash on players he shouldnt have in his final years, such as david speedie, the fact is souness took over an ailing squad, he didn't ruin the squad but he did fail to re build it.

what souness did was bring in a foreign style of training, he started the whole thing about eating right, about going straight to training as opposed to anfield first, things that are accepted as the norm now.

not our best ever manager by a long chalk but lets not forget the guy was sat on the bench at wembley a few weeks after triple heart bypass surgery and is in my opinion one of our best ever players. where souness went wrong was his story in the s*n, thats what drove him out in the end, not the fact he was having to rebuild a squad

Peewee, David Speedie WAS a Souness signing. A few weeks before we was playing Coventry and the crowd (myself included) sang "if you don't want Speedie clap ya hands" and within the coming weeks he was signed by Souness.

As for Souness, his mistake was removing the famous Liverpool Bootroom. I did feel sorry for Souness because as a player theres been few better than him in his position, but as a manager he tried to change to many things to quickly. He tried to build a side in his own playing mould i.e. hard bast.ards like Julian Dicks. He will always be considered as a Liverpool legend by me and many of my age group for his playing days, but for the youth who only remember his managing days won't give him the status he deserves.

speedie was signed by dalglish and made his debut on 3rd february 1991 against the mancs, dalglish resigned on my birthday, 22nd february 1991. it would be hard for souness to sign him when he wasnt even manager

there was no lawsuit mate, its tongue in cheek, its saying if fans had to travel the same way now (the carriages were very poor and it was such a long journey) then it would breach their human rights (there wasn't a human rights act in 1977) and the people nowadays would sue the railways under the human rights act.

its a joke

Agreed!

Hillsborough and timing of money coming into the game hampered our team in the 90s. Also I feel the ban from Europe didnt help. In the late 80s we had a very good squad that if playing in Europe would of won the European cup and we would of had a good grounding to go into the 90s instead we won domesticly and never really invested in the squad properly as of 87 when Barnes joined. Combination of things mainly being banned from Europe and Hillsborough.
